He Missed My Emergency To Deliver Her Dog’s Puppies Chapter 04

“Okay, Clara. Since you’ve come to your senses, I’ll forget you ever brought up the divorce.”

“Go home and clean up. These puppies were just born. They’re fragile. I need to stay with Stella and keep an eye on them for a few more days.”

The two of them. Unbelievable.

She acted like being the other woman was a badge of honor.

And he dressed his cheating up in noble excuses.

I looked right past Julian. Smiled.

“You know what, Ms. Brooks? Him, I can almost understand. But you and my husband teaming up to steal my clothes? That’s a new low.”

“Is that what they teach in Girlboss 101? How to sleep with married men and raid their wives’ closets?”

A couple of women browsing nearby turned to stare at Stella.

“Wait. So he’s not your boyfriend? And you two were sharing a spoon? That’s… kind of weird.”

“I literally just told the two of you how cute you looked together and you didn’t say a word. He has a wife?”

Stella opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Her face went scarlet.

The women exchanged a look, set their things down, and walked out without another word.

Stella’s eyes welled up. She turned to Julian, her voice cracking.

“Julian, did she come here just to humiliate me?”

“I just thought the sweater was soft and warm. Perfect for the puppies. She spends your money on whatever she feels like. How many clothes does she need? And now she’s in here trashing my reputation?”

“Those were regulars, Julian. They’re never coming back. She’s going to destroy my business.”

Julian wiped her tears like she was the one who’d been wronged. Then he turned on me.

“I’m the one who took the sweater, Clara. Why are you going after her? It’s a piece of clothing. Since when are you this petty?”

“You’re just gonna get bigger anyway. It’s not like you’d still fit in it. Just ask your mom to make you another one. Problem solved.”

“It’s not like it’s designer. What’s the big deal?”

The look on his face. Like I was beneath him.

Something in me snapped. I slapped him across the face.

“You’re damn right it’s precious! She’s dead, Julian! She can’t make me another one!”

“While you were here playing house with her, while you were delivering puppies instead of picking up my calls, my parents died!”

Julian’s hands dropped from Stella. His face went white.

“What? No. Your parents… how…”

He didn’t get to finish. Stella shoved me.

“Who the hell do you think you are, putting your hands on him?”

“It’s a sweater! You want it back so bad? Fine. Take it.”

She ripped the sweater pieces off the puppies and hurled them into a dirty litter box an employee was taking out.

“Parents dead? Please. I ran into Mr. and Mrs. Vance at the grocery store just the other day.”

“You’re pathetic. You use that pregnancy to lie, manipulate, and guilt-trip your way through everything. You make women look bad just by existing.”

The litter box hadn’t been cleaned.

Clumps of dirty litter clung to the wool. The smell hit me instantly.

Everything my mom had put into that sweater. Gone.

“I… I didn’t… I didn’t know she was going to…”

The employee shrank back when she saw my face.

The rage was physical. It burned through my chest, my throat, my whole body.

I turned on Stella. My hand was already in the air.

But before I could touch her…

Julian slapped me first.

The crack echoed through the silent shop.
