My Dead Hero’s Wedding Chapter 02

My Dead Hero’s Wedding Chapter 02 The Curse I Sent to His Wedding
I stepped out of the restroom and caught a comrade whispering to Adrian.
“Adrian, have you really made up your mind? Are you really going to treat Sienna this way?”
His tone was calm and detached, “She’s been dead for five years, why even bring her up?”
A heavy silence fell.
The wedding ceremony soon began.
Seeing I was distraught, Claire kindly arranged for someone else to take my place at the last minute.
Adrian knelt solemnly on one knee and slid a wedding ring onto Claire’s ring finger.
I recognized the design—I had drawn it myself once.
I lingered in a corner, watching Claire beam happily on the stage as she spoke her vows, “I do.”
A surge of raw fury welled up inside me. I longed to storm forward and confront Claire, to ask what right she had to take the man I loved.
I wanted to demand of Adrian why he pretended not to know me at all.
Why had everyone kept secrets from me?
I craved to destroy this wedding entirely.
But I held myself back.
I simply sat there, and once they finished exchanging rings, I was the first to start clapping.
My applause rang out loud and clear.
All eyes in the crowd turned toward me.
Yet I paid them no heed. When Adrian’s gaze drifted over, I looked straight back at him.
Our eyes met, and tears spilled down my face.
Adrian’s pupils narrowed for a split second, then he looked away.
His stare was cold, empty of any warmth or emotion.
My fingernails dug sharply into my palms.
I felt on the verge of breaking down.
I pulled out my phone and sent him a message.
“Adrian, I won’t wish you joy on your wedding day.”
““I hope you spend the rest of your life wanting what you can’t have and losing everyone you love.”
The second I hit send, I felt like a fucking idiot.
The one he loved stood right by his side. My bitter words meant nothing.
I left before the ceremony drew to a close.
If I stayed any longer, I knew I would end up drawing my gun.
A year prior, when the final clue in my investigation vanished, I’d swallowed a handful of sleeping pills.
I survived. A neighbor found me and rushed me to the hospital.
When I woke, my former captain held my hand and urged me to carry on living—to live for Adrian.
But a world without him was nothing but endless darkness, too painful to bear.
Adrian and I had attended military academy together. After graduation, we joined the special forces side by side, the closest of partners.
Before that fateful mission, we’d promised each other we would file for marriage as soon as our duties were done.
But during the operation, he stayed behind alone to cover the unit’s retreat. He vanished without a trace.
Officially, he was listed as missing in action and presumed dead.
Now he was back.
Only he was no longer mine.
