He Faked His Death for My Trust Fund. So I Planned My Own Goodbye. Chapter 09

Julian’s head snapped up.

“What did you say?”

His friend sighed.

“I had someone check the trust fund again.”

“It wasn’t transferred to anyone else.”

“It went to an overseas account.”

“The name on it is still Mina Caldwell.”

Light returned to Julian’s eyes.

“I knew Mina wouldn’t leave so easily.”

“I’m going to find her.”

He said he wanted to come find me.

But Tessa told him,

“Mina said…”

“If you want to see her, you have to do one thing first.”

“Go live and confess everything you’ve done.”

Even though Camille had already divorced him…

When she heard about it, she still rushed over to stop him.

“Julian, you can’t do this.”

“You’ll destroy yourself in public.”

“If you really do it, how will you live in this world afterward?”

Julian gritted his teeth and closed his eyes.

“I’ll do it.”

The next day, he sat in front of the camera and went live.

“I want to confess.”

“I was too greedy before.”

“To get my girlfriend’s Grandpa Everett’s trust fund, I had people give her counterfeit medication and convinced her she had cancer.”

“I also faked a plane crash and pretended I was dead so she’d think I was gone.”

“My goal was to break her down bit by bit until she signed over the beneficiary rights.”

“But now I regret it.”

“My stupidity and greed pushed my girlfriend to disappear from Greyhaven Pier.”

“I was wrong.”

“I’m willing to accept any punishment and pay any price.”

“I just want my girlfriend Mina to come back and look at me one more time.”

The livestream spread across the internet fast.

Everyone started cursing him.

Everyone started turning their backs on Julian.

Even his own parents publicly cut ties.

“Julian Hayes, how did I end up with a son like you?”

“I thought Mina had wronged you first and that’s why you pushed her away.”

“I thought she was trying to use our family’s status.”

“I never imagined it was her Grandpa Everett’s trust fund.”

“You schemed against an orphan with no one to back her up. Do you even have a conscience?”

“I even scolded her at the cemetery last time.”

“Now I realize I wronged her completely.”

Mrs. Hayes was filled with regret whenever she thought about what had happened at St. Brigid’s Cemetery.

It turned out her own son had done all of it.

She wanted to cut ties with Julian immediately.

His friends distanced themselves too.

“Better stay away from a guy like that.”

“He could do something so cold to his own girlfriend.”

“Who knows when he’ll turn on us.”

Even business partners pulled out their investments.

Julian became a public pariah.

Everyone avoided him.

Watching his reputation crumble, I calmly felt the hatred in my chest slowly fade.

Some say revenge never really ends.

But I chose to settle every hurt right where it happened.

Once it was settled, I cut ties completely.

I never expected…

Julian would show up in front of me again.

“Mina, it’s been a long time.”

That day, I was walking along a street by Lake Geneva.

A trembling voice came from behind me.

My whole body stiffened. I turned slowly.

Julian looked at me with red-rimmed eyes.

“Mina, Tessa told me where you were in Switzerland.”

“I want to try one more time.”

“You’re alive. That’s all that matters.”

“I… I only wanted the trust fund.”

“If you’d just given me the money back then, I wouldn’t have gone through all this trouble.”

“But I was wrong.”

“I don’t want your trust fund anymore.”

Julian fumbled through his explanation.

“Even the courthouse marriage with Camille was only a temporary arrangement to deal with her.”

“But I’ve already divorced her.”

“And I confessed everything on livestream.”

“Mina, please.”

“Give me another chance. Come back to me, okay?”

But once trust is broken, it doesn’t come back.

Julian had told me one huge lie after another.

He’d made a fool out of me.

He had no chance left.

With Grandpa Everett’s trust fund, I’d already built a life for myself in Switzerland.

I was finally in control of my own future.

I didn’t need anyone.

And I didn’t want love anymore.

Looking at the sincerity and pleading in his eyes…

I spoke calmly.

“Julian, you saw the notebook I left you.”

“I said it there. You lied to me.”

“So this is the end for us.”

“From now on, if we meet again, we’ll be strangers.”

“I’m leaving.”

I turned and walked away.

Behind me, Julian covered his face and cried so hard he could barely stand.

“Mina, Minnow…”

“You really don’t love me anymore?”

“We used to love each other so much. We were so happy.”

Yeah.

We used to love each other so much. We were so happy.

But you destroyed it all yourself.

I once thought I’d marry you and have a warm, complete home.

But in the end, none of it remained.

Nothing was left.

“Mina, don’t go…”

“Have I really lost you for good?”

“But I was wrong. I really regret it.”

Those apologies no longer had anything to do with me.

I would never hear them again.
