Seeing My Parents Ignored, I Knew This Don Wasn’t the One Chapter 06

The Hamptons descended into chaos.

I heard all of this later from the wedding planner.

Dominic stood in the empty ceremony space, his face frighteningly pale.

The sea breeze kept whipping the white drapery around.

Guests were already filing in.

The officiant asked if the ceremony was still happening. Dominic couldn’t get a word out.

Eleanor stood nearby, eyes red, her friends too scared to make a sound.

“Dom, is Charlotte still mad at me?”

“Maybe I should go explain.”

For the first time, Dominic didn’t rush to comfort her.

He just stared at his phone. Dialing my number. Again and again. Nothing but a busy signal.

Mr. and Mrs. Marchesi arrived at the venue, flanked by their security detail.

Mrs. Marchesi—a woman who commanded both respect and fear in New York’s high society and the underworld alike—listened as an assistant quietly briefed her on the ticket situation.

The color drained from her face.

She walked up and, in front of every guest, slapped Dominic across the face without mercy.

“You gave Charlotte’s parents’ seats to Vance’s relatives and those ungrateful girls?”

Dominic’s Adam’s apple bobbed.

“Mom, I didn’t give them away. It’s just that Eleanor had more people—”

Mrs. Marchesi struck him again.

The entire ceremony area went silent.

Her hand was trembling with rage.

“More people?”

“You stomped all over Charlotte’s parents’ dignity just so your spineless childhood friend and her gold-digging crew could sit comfortably?”

“Dominic, since when did the Marchesi family teach you to treat people like this?”

Eleanor’s face went white. Her mother rushed to smooth things over.

“Godmother, he had good intentions. Eleanor’s friends were all first-time visitors to the Hamptons. He didn’t want anyone to feel embarrassed.”

Mrs. Marchesi turned a cold stare on her.

“Embarrassed?”

“Charlotte’s parents were kicked off a bus and left standing on a platform with their luggage. Wasn’t that embarrassing?”

“There were that many of you, and not one person could give up a seat?”

Eleanor’s mother was left speechless.

Elise muttered under her breath, “We’re already in the Hamptons, and now she cancels the wedding just like that? So disrespectful. Our flights and hotels weren’t cheap.”

Mr. Marchesi fixed a death glare on her.

“The Marchesi family will cover all expenses.”

“But as of today, the Vance family has no relationship with us. Anyone who continues associating with them does so as my enemy.”

Eleanor’s head snapped up.

“Mr. Marchesi—”

Mr. Marchesi didn’t look at her. He only looked at Dominic.

“You lost her yourself.”

“Don’t blame anyone else when she doesn’t wait.”

The Hamptons wedding, with its million-dollar setup, became a joke.

As the guests dispersed, white rose petals scattered across the ground in the wind.

Dominic stood on that stage for a long time. It wasn’t until dusk settled in that something finally seemed to click. He booked the next flight back to Northgate.

But this time, he didn’t bring Eleanor with him.

Mrs. Marchesi blocked her personally.

“Miss Vance.”

“If you have even a shred of decency left, you will not show your face in front of Dominic again.”

Eleanor’s tears fell instantly.

“Mrs. Marchesi, Dom and I really are just childhood friends. That’s all.”

Mrs. Marchesi’s laugh was ice-cold.

“Childhood friends don’t give you the right to trample on someone else’s parents’ dignity.”

Eleanor stood frozen, her face going paler by the second.
