They All Voted for My Death Then I Came Back Reborn Chapter 08

The Whitmores finally understood that the Claire they had brought back was not the daughter they had

invented in their memories.

She would not put on a white dress and pose for photographs.

She would not sit in front of a birthday cake and smile.

She showed Mason none of the affection they remembered, and she would not obediently eat whatever they

placed in front of her.

Unexpected hugs terrified her.

She hated the smell of perfume.

The curtains could not be opened all the way, and the television volume had to stay below twenty.

At first, Laura tried to remain patient.

“Claire, I know you suffered in that other universe. But you have to give yourself time to adjust.”

Claire pressed both hands over her ears and buried her face in a throw pillow.

“I’ve always been like this. You’re the ones who never adjusted to me.”

Laura’s expression stiffened.

She wanted to argue, but the words autism spectrum flashed through her mind.

Years ago, she had hidden Claire’s assessment and thrown away the support plan the doctor recommended.

She insisted that nothing was wrong with her daughter. Claire had simply been spoiled.

Now Claire sat in front of her, digging her fingernails into the backs of her hands until red marks appeared.

Laura reached out to stop her.

Claire screamed.

Richard spent the entire night smoking on the balcony.

The next morning, he began searching my old room.

He wanted my journal, my documents, and my photographs.

But they had already transformed the room into Claire’s pink bedroom.

My journals, collectibles, and award certificates were all gone.

Even the sticker on the corner of my desk that read TODAY, I’M STILL ANNA had been torn away by my

mom’s own hand.

My mom knelt beside the trash cans and started digging through them.

The garbage had already been collected.

By the time she stopped, the only thing she found was a battered old notebook torn nearly in half.

A sticky note was tucked between the pages.

[Mom said I looked like Claire today. That means today was a good day.]

Laura covered her mouth. A tiny, broken sound escaped her throat.

When Mason arrived, Claire was trembling beside the window.

He carried the notebook of notes I had written for him and tried to approach her.

“Claire, you don’t have to be afraid. Anna wrote that I have a sensitive stomach and shouldn’t drink anything

too cold.”

Claire looked at the notebook, and tears immediately spilled down her face.

“She even handed you over to me?”

Mason’s hand went rigid.

Claire pushed the notebook away.

“Why did all of you expect her to clean up the messes you made?”

Laura heard the question and abruptly stood.

“She agreed to the exchange.”

Claire turned toward her.

“If she hadn’t agreed, would you have stopped?”

The room fell silent again.

My dad’s voice came out tight.

Open the app Ask if we can exchange them back.”

Claire’s head snapped up.

“Who are you planning to trade this time?”

Laura went pale.

“Claire, I’m not saying I don’t want you.”

Claire gave a trembling laugh.

“You didn’t want Anna either. You wanted a daughter who never cried, never got sick, and never forced you to feel guilty.”

Mason lowered his head, his eyes red-rimmed.

He suddenly remembered the day I had asked him to take me to the beach.

I had told him I was going to die anyway.

All he had cared about was whether the exchange might go wrong.

This time, no one accused Claire of being difficult.

She was curled around herself, shaking with pain right in front of them.

And the daughter who had always been so obedient and undemanding had already been erased by their own

hands.
