The Second Chance Wolf Chapter 04

The Second Chance Wolf Chapter 04

I nodded, “Sure.”

I was never coming back to this home or this pack again.

If Anna wanted the room, she could have it.

My calm response seemed to catch her off guard.

She froze, “You’re… not even angry?”

When we were little, I had fought for that room. All I got in return was our parents’ scolding.

“You’re the older sister. Can’t you give in to your little sister for once?”

Now that I was leaving, there was nothing left worth fighting over.

I pulled my suitcase behind me and headed for the door.

Dad’s face darkened as he watched me.

“So, Hope, you think you’ve grown wings now? You think we have no right to tell you what to do?”

“You’re really going to run away from home just to scare us?”

“No,” I replied calmly.

“You aren’t giving me any spending money. I have to find a job to support myself.”

Dad’s expression hardened.

“What exactly are you trying to say? You think you’ve been treated unfairly? You’re blaming us?”

His voice echoed through the packhouse.

“You wanted to become a warrior? Fine. Even after Jake told us you were too skinny, too slow, and completely unsuited for it, we still let you train for eight years. Did we ever stop you?”

“They were just clothes, but you insisted they irritated your skin. We bought you several new outfits anyway. That cost hundreds of dollars.”

“Your meals cost us twenty thousand dollars a year. You asked me for three thousand dollars for running shoes. And then there was…”

He continued listing every dollar they had ever spent on me.

His words blurred together until all I heard was a dull ringing in my ears.

“Hope,” he shouted, “have you grown up only to lose your conscience?”

My eyes filled with tears, “I’ll pay you back.”

Dad’s arm shot into the air. The slap landed hard across my face.

“What are you going to pay us back with?”

“You think you did well this year?”

“When will you ever learn to be as sensible as your sister and stop making us worry?”

My cheek burned with pain.

Anna hurried over, tears welling in her eyes as she grabbed my sleeve, “Hope, please don’t make Dad angry.”

“They’re only doing this for your own good. And… I’ve never tried to compete with you.”

She said she had never competed with me. But she had never needed to.

Everything had belonged to her since the day we were born.

I gently pushed her hand away.

I barely used any strength. Yet Anna immediately frowned as though she had been hurt.

Mom instantly pulled her into a protective embrace and pointed accusingly at me.

“Both of you are our daughters. How could we possibly love one more than the other?”

“Hope, you’ve disappointed us so much.”

I turned around. Opened the door. Stepped outside. Closed it behind me.

Dad’s warning rang out from inside the house.

“If you dare leave this pack, don’t ever come back!”

I looked down at the train ticket in my hand.

Destination:

Royal Fang Academy.

“…Okay,” I answered softly.

From that moment on, there was no turning back between us.

Goodbye.

Meanwhile, thousands of kilometers away, back in the Whiteleaf Pack…

The packhouse was lively and filled with warmth.

Mom and Dad had gotten up early to help Anna prepare for her repeat year.

Brand-new running shoes. Premium knee braces and training gear. Customized nutrition meal boxes. Luxury bedding.

The living room was piled high with everything she could possibly need.

Mom knelt on the floor, carefully folding Anna’s clothes, her eyes overflowing with tenderness.

“Honey, next year will be your year. I know you’ll get into Royal Fang Academy and bring honor to our pack.”

Dad stood beside them, checking Anna’s enrollment documents, “Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”

“We’ve prepared everything. Just focus on studying and training.”

Anna lounged comfortably on the sofa, casually scrolling through photos from her vacation, barely listening as she nodded.

The entire family revolved around her. She was the center of their world.

That day also marked Anna’s first shift.

Dad had invited nearly the entire pack to witness what everyone believed would be the birth of the legendary Golden Wolf.

Not just my parents. The whole pack believed Anna was destined to become the legendary Golden Wolf.

“Where’s Hope?”

Someone finally noticed I wasn’t there and asked Mom.

Dad let out a dismissive snort, “She probably failed to awaken her wolf and is hiding somewhere crying.”

Just then, someone knocked on the front door.

A courier stood outside.

“Hello. I have an admission package from Royal Fang Academy. Could someone please sign for it?”

“An admission package?”

Everyone exchanged confused looks, “But no one from our pack got in.”

The courier checked the label again, “No mistake. It’s addressed to someone from the Whiteleaf Pack. The recipient’s last name is Rosales.”

Mom’s eyes lit up instantly, “Could it be Anna’s?”

But the moment the package was opened… every smile froze.

The academy crest shimmered brilliantly across the cover.

Inside, one name stood out with breathtaking clarity.

Hope Rosales.

The courier looked at them in surprise, “This is Hope Rosales, correct? She’s the legendary Golden Wolf. The fastest wolf of her generation, and one of the Royal Guard’s most promising future warriors.”

“The Golden Wolf?” Dad’s face turned pale, “That’s impossible!”

“Hope’s a no-wolf! Anna is THE Golden Wolf!”

At that exact moment, a scream erupted from the living room.

Beta Ken came running in, panic written across his face.

“Alpha! Anna shifted!”

“She’s… she’s a…!”
