He Counted Seconds With Me and Seasons With Her Chapter 05

By the time the plane landed, it was already late at night.

Denver has a big temperature difference between day and night. When my father came to pick me up, he was wrapped in a down jacket. He handed one to me as well.

“You’ve gotten thin. So thin.”

My father looked me over carefully. His voice was choked with emotion.

My mother took the luggage from my hand and wiped away a tear.

“Back then, I advised you not to marry that cold fish Nathan. But no, you had to abandon your parents and run off to New York to elope.”

“Now, finally, you remember you have parents.”

Even as my mother scolded me, she pulled a container from her bag.

She opened it. Inside was freshly made chicken soup.

The moment the soup entered my mouth, my tears fell.

“Dad, Mom, I’m sorry…”

“It’s my fault for being blind. It’s my fault for being unfilial.”

The moment my mother saw my tears, her heart immediately softened.

“Family doesn’t hold grudges overnight. You’re our only daughter. As long as you’re willing to come back, we will always be a family.”

Sitting in the car on the way home, I watched the familiar scenery race past outside the window.

My tears couldn’t help falling again.

After spending three years with Nathan in New York, I had almost forgotten what my childhood home looked

like.

When we got home, the lights snapped on with a click.

The familiar home of the past came into view once more.

There were the dolls I had often played with as a child. The familiar extracurricular books on the shelf. The posters of my favorite band on the walls.

There were new slippers placed in the shoe cabinet.

There were the freshly sun-dried blankets my parents had specially put on for my return, dried spotless

under the sun

A sharp ache filled my heart. My emotions completely broke through the dam.

I turned and hugged my parents. “Dad, Mom, thank you… thank you.”

My father’s broad palm patted my back, over and over.

“Just being back is good. Being back is good. In the future, if that bastard Nathan ever dares to harass you again, your dad will definitely not let him get away with it!”

“Right! We won’t let him!”

My mother echoed from the side.

I looked up at the earnest expressions on my parents’ faces. I couldn’t help but smile through my tears.

That night was the best sleep I’d had in three years.

A boundless, cool moon. A whole night of peaceful sleep.

Until I woke up the next day.

I received a text from Nathan.

After I had blocked him, he had switched to a new number

[My assistant said he tried to deliver the necklace, but you weren’t home]

[Don’t throw a tantrum. Where did you go?]

[I’m busy with work. Reply within three minutes.]
