Before the College Application Deadline My Boyfriend Unplugged My Mouse Chapter 06

My mother shot to her feet.

My father’s face hardened with fury.

Hailey also looked up, panic flashing in her eyes.

I stared at Nolan.

“You heard me?”

Tears rolled down his face.

“Natalie, I thought you still had enough time.”

I held his gaze.

“So you heard me say I hadn’t submitted my application, and you still kept helping her?”

His voice broke.

“She wouldn’t stop crying. She said I was the only person who could help her. You work quickly on the application portal, so I thought I could finish checking hers and get back to you before the deadline.”

I laughed once.

“Nolan, you didn’t think I had enough time.”

“You thought she could come first and I would wait.”

His entire body went rigid.

Hailey cried softly, “Nolan, I never meant to make you-”

He suddenly turned toward her.

“Shut up.”

Hailey flinched.

It was the first time he had ever spoken to her that way.

But it was too late.

I no longer needed him to take my side.

Mrs. Carter’s eyes reddened with anger.

“You made Natalie miss her college application deadline because you were helping someone else?”

Nolan kept his head lowered and said nothing.

Mrs. Dawson still tried to smooth things over.

“You can’t really say her future is ruined. Natalie has such strong grades. I’m sure there are other schools-”

My father turned a cold stare on her.

“So because my daughter has good grades, she should be the one who pays for what your daughter did?”

Mrs. Dawson’s face went pale.

The only sound left in the office was Hailey’s muffled crying.

In the end, the college counselor prepared a written incident report and gave my mother a copy of the

security footage.

As we were leaving, Hailey suddenly lunged forward and grabbed my arm.

“Natalie, I know I was wrong. Please don’t post the footage online. People will tear me apart.”

I looked down at her hand.

“When you made me miss my application deadline, did you ever wonder what that would do to me?”

She shook her head through her tears.

“I was just afraid everyone would leave me.”

I pried her hand away.

“You don’t have to be afraid anymore.”

She stared at me blankly.

I said quietly, “I really am done with you.”

My interview for Bayview University’s Global Journalism program was three days later.

The night before I left, Nolan came to my house again.

This time, he did not bring roasted chestnuts.
