The Surrogate Luna Chapter 08

The Surrogate Luna Chapter 08

Seven days after the Carter Group and Fletcher Group collapsed, I returned to deal with the

remaining assets.

I was sitting alone at a café by the river when a familiar figure stopped in front of me and took the

seat across from mine.

It was Michael.

Her hair was unkempt, her face was bruised, and her clothes were old and wrinkled.

The elegant, arrogant woman who had once ruled my father’s pack was nowhere to be seen.

Even so, the resentment in her eyes remained unchanged.

Without looking up, I slowly stirred my tea.

“How did you find me?”

She let out a cold laugh.

“Rebecca, I really underestimated you. You’re far more capable than your mother ever was.”

Only then did I raise my eyes to meet hers.

“My mother was gentle. She was too kind. All she ever did was cry.

“I stole her mate, took her place, and destroyed her reputation. She cried until the day she died, but

she never fought back.”

Michael tapped her fingers lightly against the table.

“But you’re nothing like her.”

“You knew what Aiden and Kristina were doing all along, didn’t you?”

“You endured everything until the perfect moment. Then you struck.”

“You dragged me, Kristina, your father, Aiden, every single one of us straight into hell.”

“Everything I spent my entire life fighting to build…”

“You destroyed it all.”

She looked at me for a long moment before slowly nodding.

“You’re ruthless. And you’re smart.”

“I lost to you. I have no regrets.”

I quietly set my teacup down.

“You didn’t lose because I was ruthless. You lost because you chose evil from the very beginning.”

“You stole my mother’s mate. You ruined her name. You made me grow up with everyone calling me the mistress’s daughter.”

“I spent my childhood surrounded by contempt and ridicule.”

“You watched Kristina push me down the stairs. You watched her desecrate my mother’s ashes.

“You built your happiness on our suffering. And now you think I’m cruel?”

“When were you ever merciful to us?”

The color drained from Michael’s face.

Her lips moved, but she couldn’t say a word.

“My mother was kind. That’s why she spent her whole life suffering.”

“She died with nothing but regret. But I’m not her.”

“If someone hurts me… I make them pay. If someone takes something from me… I take back twice

as much.”

I looked straight into her eyes and gave a faint smile.

“You admire me? Then keep watching.”

“Watch everything you’ve spent your life building disappear. Watch your precious daughter pay for

her greed and cruelty. And watch every one of your schemes end with you abandoned…”

“With nothing.”

Hatred flashed across Michael’s face.

Moments later, defeat swallowed it completely. She collapsed back into her chair, murmuring to

herself.

“I lost… I really lost…”

“If your mother had been even half as ruthless as you… I never would have won.”

“My mother never needed to be ruthless.”

I rose to my feet and looked down at her.

“She lived her entire life with kindness. She never harmed anyone.”

“That’s something you’ll never have. Not in this life. Not in the next.”

Without another glance, I turned and walked away.

The warm sunlight rested across my shoulders..

Behind me, Michael finally broke down.

She buried her face in her hands and sobbed beside the river.

She had spent half her life defeating my mother. She stole everything that should have belonged to

Yet in the end… She lost everything herself.

After settling everything, I boarded my flight back to Spain.

As the plane prepared for takeoff, I looked one last time at the city where I had lived for more than

twenty years.

Then I switched off my phone. Along with it, I erased every memory.

Every grudge. Every wound. From that moment on, the sky belonged to me.

Nothing would ever bind me again.

Everyone who had hurt my mother and me eventually paid the price.

Aiden lost his company, his fortune, and his reputation.

He was sentenced to three years in prison for forging the bond-sealing agreement.

People said he spent every day facing the wall, writing the same words over and over.

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m sorry.”

Later, rumors spread that he had lost his mind. He repeated the same sentences endlessly.

“It wasn’t supposed to end like this. Rebecca is my Luna. She’s my mate.”

“You can’t lie to me.”

Before completing his sentence, he took his own life inside the werewolf prison.

Kristina became an outcast, raising the baby alone. Without money, she was forced to live in a rundown apartment.

Everything she had done out of vanity and greed finally caught up with her.

The child couldn’t survive in those conditions.

Three months later, the baby died.

After that, Kristina disappeared without a trace. No one ever heard from her again.

Dad remained paralyzed in his hospital bed. After the company and pack collapsed, even the nurses

left.

No one stayed to care for him.

By the time he was found, he had already died. His body had begun to decompose.

Michael lost everyone around her. Debt collectors hunted her day after day. She spent every waking

moment hiding.

Eventually, while trying to escape, she fell from a high-rise building. She was already dead when

the ambulance arrived.

I sat quietly on the plane and looked out at the endless blue sky beyond the window.

Then I let out a slow, long breath.

At last… Every debt had been repaid.

I was finally free. I no longer had to love him.

There would never again be a Rebecca trapped by love.

Never again would I compromise. Never again would I make myself small for someone else.

From now on, there was only Rebecca.

A woman who lived for herself.

The past was over. And I would never look back.
