I Pursued Him for My Best Friend Chapter 11

I stared. They were turning on each other.

Brady touched my elbow. “Go wash your hands. You’ve got sauce on them.”

I looked down—gray smudges and red streaks on my knuckles.

“Sorry for wrecking your dinner, Brady. I’ll pay for everything, and I owe you a meal to make up for it. Seriously.”

I froze for a second. He had dimples when he smiled—deeper than I’d noticed. “It’s my fault anyway. I sat next to you and started the whole thing. Go clean up. I’ll handle the mess here.”

“Uh, thanks.”

Jenna tugged me toward the restroom.

Once we were gone, Brady’s smile dropped. He turned to Landon.

“Take your girl and get out. If Piper decides to call the cops, you know what happens to your season. Don’t test me.”

Landon had never felt so humiliated. He’d gotten beaten black and blue, and now he was scared the girl who’d hit him would call the cops on him.

After they left, Derek nudged Brady. “That side of Piper was something. Impressions?”

Brady thought a second. “She’s sharp and gutsy, unapologetic about how she feels, no pointless overthinking, generous, and she gets things done. Also she hits really hard.”

“I like her even more.”

Derek rolled his eyes. Since when was “hits hard” a plus?

We came back from the bathroom, appetite gone. Tara and Jenna were wiped too. I added Brady’s number and told him to send me the bill.

He didn’t say no, but the bill never came.

Kendra didn’t come back to the dorm till next afternoon. She had new clothes, shopping bags everywhere.

She was holding a swimsuit against herself while FaceTiming Landon.

“Babe, what time are we going swimming? I want to show off this suit.”

She didn’t even look up when we walked in. Tara snatched her phone and locked the screen.

“Hey! Give it back!”

Tara’s voice dripped sarcasm. “I thought this was a girls’ dorm. If you’re that attached, go live with him. Oh wait… you are. You said he has a condo. Move already.”

Kendra had never won a fight with Tara. But she kept trying. Normally I would’ve stepped in to mediate.

I’d always thought Kendra was just spoiled, not a bad person.

Now I saw how blind I’d been.

“You’re all jealous,” Kendra spat. “Landon has a huge condo near campus. I’m moving out in two days. you can stay cramped in this tiny dump without me.”
