I Pursued Him for My Best Friend Chapter 10

Tara and Jenna jumped in instantly, like they’d been queued up to join the fight.

Plates, forks, cups—everything within reach went flying across the table.

Landon got caught off guard. “Piper, are you hitting me?”

Damn right I am. You asked for every bit of this.

Kendra screamed and threw herself in front of Landon. “Are you insane? Someone call the cops!”

I grabbed another plate—and aimed at her too.

Chaos. His roommates half-stood to intervene, but our fury scared them off. They just yelled, “Guys, cut it out! Please!”

To his credit, Landon shielded Kendra’s head with his arm, like he was daring us to come for him instead.

Fine. I’ll give you exactly what you asked for. All three of us shifted our aim and zeroed in on his head.

Chips of ceramic and splashes of soda exploded on his face. Tara got him in the shoulder with a ketchup bottle. Jenna threw a handful of fries.

“Piper, I swear—I’ll hit back!” Landon shouted.

But before he could, Derek and Brady both jumped in.

Funny how they only restrained Landon, not me. Derek held his arms, Brady stepped between us with his back to me.

I kept swinging until I ran out of breath. My arm ached.

Landon wobbled, his face a mess of bruises and food stains—streaked red with salsa, brown with BBQ sauce, already purpling in spots from the hits.

Kendra panicked, grabbing his shoulders and shaking him. “Babe, are you okay? Does it hurt? Say something!”

He was already dizzy. Her shaking made him stagger.

Then he puked. All over her.

“AHHH!” Her scream rattled the windows.

I backed up a step. Nasty move. Thank god I didn’t end up on the receiving end of that.

“I’m calling the cops! This is assault!” Kendra shrieked.

Tara and Jenna went pale. “Should we smash the cameras?” Tara whispered.

“There’s like sixty witnesses—can we coordinate a story?” Jenna added.

I patted both their shoulders, calm as could be. I don’t start fights I can’t win.

I leaned in and whispered, “Landon has three big meets next month. If he goes to the cops, he’ll be suspended. He won’t risk it.”

They gave me silent thumbs-up.

But Kendra was too far gone to pick up on any of that.

After getting hit with plates, covered in vomit, and getting shut down about calling the cops, she completely snapped. She rounded on Landon.

“You’re protecting her? You’re still into her? I’m your girlfriend—not her! Why won’t you give me your medal? You were going to give it to her!”

She shook him harder. He shoved her off. She hit the floor with a thud.

“You hit me instead of her?” She wailed.
