After I Dressed as a Man, He Mistook Me for His Rival Chapter 12

The equipment room wasn’t locked.

The case of water Maribel had bought was sitting on a high shelf.

I stood on my toes and reached for a long time, but I still couldn’t get it down.

In my panic, I pulled too hard.

The entire shelf suddenly tipped toward me.

Before I could move, it crashed down and pinned me underneath.

A thick cloud of dust hit my face.

Pain shot through my ankle so sharply that my vision blurred.

“Is anyone there?”

I called toward the door again and again, but no one answered.

In the silence, all I could think was how stupidly unlucky this was. The water had been put on the highest shelf. No one was watching the equipment room today. And Maribel had forgotten it there in the first place.

What a coincidence.

Really.

I closed my eyes and let the thought tear through me until my chest hurt.

Sadness hit me all at once, so hard I could barely breathe.

I buried my face against my knees and stayed there until, after what felt like forever, a hand reached toward me.

The fingers were long and clean.

When I didn’t respond, the boy pressed his lips together and carefully moved the shelf aside, and lifted me onto his back.

A cold, woody scent drifted over me.

My head snapped up.

It was Lachlan Crest.

He looked the same as always, calm and unreadable.

“I was just passing by.”

But the game had already started. The excuse was so weak it was almost embarrassing.

The next second, his eyes landed on my uniform pants.

He froze. “You…”

There was a stain on the fabric.

Only then did I realize my period must have started.

I quickly wrapped my jacket around my waist and said in a panic, “It’s fine.”

“I’m probably bleeding from the fall.”

“Thank you for helping me. I need to go to the nurse’s office now. You don’t have to bother with me.”

Lachlan’s hand stopped in midair.

He stared at me for a while.

Then he said, “Okay.”

The equipment room was small, and we were standing too close.

He took out his phone to call a teacher for me.

By accident, I saw his lock screen.

I froze slightly.

After all this time, he still had screenshots of our old messages saved there.

When he noticed my gaze, he put his phone away, looking a little unnatural.

I was about to leave when Lachlan called after me.

“Sutton.”

I stopped.

He said, “About today.”

“Maribel didn’t mean it. She was just jealous for a moment, so she set you up.”

“You’re all right now,” he said, his voice softening like he truly meant it. “So don’t blame her, okay?”

That was when the floating comments appeared again.

[Wait, Sutton is actually a girl? And Lachlan is still speaking up for Maribel?]

[I feel so bad for the little sister. She was the one the male lead fell for online in the first place.]

[The parents were so biased that they made the younger daughter live as a boy just to follow the older sister around and serve her. What kind of parents do that?]

[Lachlan, wake up. He’s been hung up on the fact that his online crush was supposedly a boy, but he still has feelings, right? Otherwise he wouldn’t have dated the sister and still refused to hold her hand.]

[Poor Sutton, just tell him the truth. He’ll feel guilty. He’ll make it up to you.]

The floating comments were still crying for me, but I only turned back and looked carefully at Lachlan’s face.

He was still beautiful.

For some reason, my eyes started to sting.

I looked away.

What a shame.

I murmured it under my breath.

What a shame.

I didn’t like him anymore.
