After I Dressed as a Man, He Mistook Me for His Rival Chapter 03

After that, maybe because he felt a little guilty, Lachlan had someone bring me a few things.

They were thick notebooks and a set of practice workbooks that were hard to get.

Tavish handed them to me with his usual lazy slouch.

“He put these together.”

“Lachlan’s always at the top of the class. His notes should help you with the midterm.”

When he saw me hesitate, Tavish threw an arm around my shoulders.

“Come on. Don’t make it weird. We were wrong that day.”

Then he leaned closer, half joking. “Just don’t go talking trash about us to your sister.”

Oh.

So he liked Maribel too.

I could only take the materials and nod.

When I opened one of the workbooks, I found a beautifully wrapped box of chocolates tucked inside.

I froze.

Tavish had already started walking away.

Without looking back, he lifted a hand and waved. “Those are from me.”

“Eat more. Maybe you’ll finally grow.”

When the midterm came, the workbook turned out to be more useful than I expected.

Most of the question types were nearly identical, and I didn’t miss a single one.

After that, things between me and them eased a little.

At school, whenever Lachlan and I ran into each other, we would nod and say a brief hello.

Sometimes, while I stood outside the hall with my books, reviewing notes, I would see Lachlan crouched near the lower courtyard, feeding a cluster of orange tabbies.

The summer wind moved softly through the trees.

He seemed to be thinking of someone. The corner of his mouth lifted before he even noticed.

Then, in the next second, a pretty figure threw herself into his arms.

“So this is where you were!”

Maribel glanced at the cats and tilted her head. “Wow. You’re just like my brother. You both like plain little stray?”

“I thought you’d like something more impressive. A Maine Coon or something.”

Lachlan stilled slightly.

“Your brother likes them?”

“Yeah. Why?”

He stood up. “Nothing.”

Then he said, “Come on. Let’s go watch your ballet practice.”

They walked away together.

One of the kittens rubbed against my leg, meowing.

I broke off little pieces of a hot dog and fed it.

After that, I stopped studying there.
