When the Luna Vanished Chapter 07

When the Luna Vanished Chapter 07

He carried Celeste’s still-warm body to his bedroom.

An icy draft seemed to whip through the room, as if the room itself rejected her presence. Layla stumbled back, her legs giving way, and she collapsed in a graceless heap beside the massive bed.

The warlock’s pitiful pleas echoed in the distance, but she paid them no mind.

Tremors wracked her body.

She’d always thought Issac’s feelings for Celeste were nothing more than guilt—petty charity.

After all, she’d killed their five daughters, and Issac had hidden it all, never uttering a single harsh word against her.

But now, watching him confront her, suspect her, rage like a tyrant over Celeste’s death—

She finally realized the truth.

Issac had fallen in love with Celeste Brown.

He’d loved someone other than her!

And if he were to learn that she was not merely a beneficiary of circumstance, but the architect of this whole bloody tragedy? She was terrified to even contemplate the depths of his retribution.

Layra’s lips trembled as she gritted her teeth, signaling her confidant to summon Silvermoon Pack’s leaders. She prayed her parents could calm his fury.

By evening, the body in Issac’s arms had gone cold and stiff.

Yet he refused to let go, lying beside her in bed, trying to warm her lifeless form.

A tentative rap came at the door. A subordinate’s voice, muffled by the thick wood, announced, “Alpha Isaac, your father-in-law, Alpha Theodore of Silvermoon, begs an audience.”

Issac’s voice was icy, “Tell him no.”

But his trembling body froze. Celeste’s murmured “I want to go home” from that night echoed in his ears.

His resolve softened, “Send him in.”

“Celeste would want to see her parents, wouldn’t she?”

He spoke to himself, holding her close as he sat upright in bed.

The sight that greeted Alpha Theodore was one to freeze the blood. Isaac, the fierce Alpha of Stormborn, sat cradling the corpse of his daughter like a child with a broken doll. The tenderness in the gesture was obscene. A cold slither of unease began to unwind in Theodore’s gut.

“Issac, Celeste was fated for a short life—she wasn’t meant to stay with you forever. We should lay her to rest soon.”

Issac’s brows furrowed, his gaze turning cold and sharp, “Did Layra Clark send you to beg for mercy?”

Before Alpha Theodore could respond, Issac slammed his fist on the bedside table, standing abruptly, “Celeste was your daughter—your biological daughter!”

“As her father, you helped your adopted child force Celeste into a deadly labor! I said nothing, but did you think I didn’t know?”

“When Layra killed our five children one by one—where were your words of reason then?”

Alpha Theodore paled with terror. Issac’s anger blazed hotter as he barked orders:

“From this day forward, Layra Clark is confined to her chambers! She is not to leave until the truth about Celeste’s murder is uncovered!”

“My patience has limits!”

Alpha Theodore fled in fear.

Outside the door, Layra’s cries erupted, “Alpha, you can’t do this to me! You said you felt guilty—you promised to love me forever! You lied!”

“Alpha, I fought beside you in battle! I sacrificed my chance to be a mother for you! How can you treat me like this? Have you no honor?”

Issac frowned, “Layra Clark is still unwell. Escort her back to her room!”

The maid nodded nervously, dragging her away.

He brushed his fingers gently over Celeste’s furrowed brow, “Celeste, don’t be afraid. I’ll protect you now—no one will ever hurt you again.”

The grim silence was shattered by the arrival of a warrior. He saluted sharply. “Alpha Isaac. The prisoner in the black cells has broken. He sings a torrent. But he says the full truth is for your ears only. He demands to speak with you.”
