The Alpha Let Her Humiliate Me Every Full Moon Chapter 03

The slap shocked Dorian sober and even jolted Delilah awake on the couch.

She stared at the red mark spreading across his cheek, then stumbled toward me, alcohol heavy on her breath.

Before I could step back, she swung at my face.

Her palm cracked across my cheek.

“Who the hell do you think you are?” she screamed. “No one lays a hand on Dorian!”

She gave me a contemptuous once-over.

“So you want to end things with him? Fine. There are plenty of better women out there. You’re nothing special.”

My cheek burned where her palm had landed.

Tears stung my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.

I raised my hand to strike back, but Dorian caught my wrist.

He shoved me hard enough to send me stumbling backward.

My back slammed into the doorframe, and pain flared along my spine.

Dorian stepped in front of Delilah, his jaw tight with irritation.

“She’s drunk,” he snapped. “Don’t sink to her level.”

He pointed toward the door.

“Go outside and cool off. We’ll talk tomorrow when you’re ready to stop acting crazy.”

I stared at him as though I no longer knew him.

Delilah had hit me.

He had watched it happen, yet somehow I was still the problem.

He looked at me as though I were nothing more than an unwanted outsider.

Without sparing me another glance, he bent down to comfort Delilah through her drunken outburst, giving her the tenderness he had once reserved for me.

I dug my nails into my palms, grabbed my bags, and walked out.

I found a motel at the edge of the Thornmire and finally fell asleep at sunrise.

When I woke, my phone was lighting up nonstop.

The pack network was filled with gossip about the latest full-moon pranks. Worried packmates wanted to know why I’d missed the morning hunt, while others asked whether I had exciting news to share about the bonding ceremony.

I stared at the messages for a long moment before replying that Dorian and I had broken up.

The responses came almost immediately.

Some assumed it was another full-moon joke. Others insisted I was overreacting just because the ceremony had been postponed.

To everyone else, Dorian was steady, dependable, and highly desirable.

They had no idea what happened when no one else was watching.

On our fourth anniversary, he staged fake preparations for a bonding ceremony and let Delilah release a snake into our den while I was getting ready.

On our fifth anniversary, he slipped a silver-lined ceremonial band onto my finger as another joke.

I spent the rest of that day with the pack healer being treated for silver poisoning.

Dorian was dependable, just never when it came to me.

I had ignored every warning sign, telling myself that he was good to me whenever Delilah wasn’t around.

Now that I could finally think clearly, I knew even a completed mate bond couldn’t repair what was broken between us.

Out of habit, I opened the pack network again.

Among all the prank posts, one of Delilah’s photo dumps stood out.

There were pictures of Dorian hunting beside her, winning prizes for her at the summer games, and running through the forest with her in wolf form.

He always spent the full moon with her first and remembered our anniversary only afterward.

Yet he had never done any of those things with me.

He always claimed those activities were childish, the kind of thing pups did when they were playing at romance.

“We should stay in and plan for our future, something that actually matters,” he’d always say.

I had mistaken his indifference for maturity and buried every romantic hope I had.

But the genuine smile in those photos finally made the truth clear.

He didn’t hate those things.

He only hated doing them with me.

Their friends had filled the comments with the same words.

[Relationship goals!]

[You two are perfect together.]

[Best full-moon pair ever.]

The post had received far more likes than our bonding announcement ever had.

I was about to turn off my phone when a message from Dorian appeared.

[Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m only trying to make her feel better. Come back when you can. She wants to apologize.]

I stared at the screen, my thumb hovering over the reply box as I typed:

[Hell no.]

Before I could send it, a delivery notification appeared.

The anniversary gift I’d ordered for Dorian had been delivered to our old den.

I looked at the notification for several seconds.

We needed a clean break.

I still had to return his keys, and there was no reason to drag things out. I might as well rip off the bandage and end everything at once.

This would be our final goodbye.

I changed clothes and drove back to the den.

The moment I stepped through the door, someone dumped a bucket of foul-smelling liquid over me, soaking me from head to toe.

My face and neck began to burn almost immediately.

Laughter erupted around me.

“Surprise!”

Delilah jumped out from behind the door, clapping her hands.

“Happy full moon!”
