My Husband Locked Me Out of Our Home for Another Woman Chapter 11

My Husband Locked Me Out of Our Home for Another Woman Chapter 11

A month later, I returned to Briarhaven to process the HOA deposit refund.

Nolan was already waiting in the property office lobby.

He had lost a lot of weight and held a thick stack of papers in his hand.

When he saw me, he stood up.

“Elena, I wrote a review of what happened and a plan for the future.”

I walked around him.

“Refund first.”

The staff member at the counter pulled up the account.

“Ms. Hart, your HOA deposit refund is three hundred twenty-four dollars and sixty cents.

I signed.

Then the staff member added, “Seventeen dollars of that was a maintenance fee adjustment Mr. Whitmore prepaid earlier.”

I opened my banking app and transferred seventeen dollars to Nolan.

The memo read: [HOA adjustment settled.]

Nolan watched the payment notification arrive, and several pages slipped from his hand.

“Elena, you’re really calculating even seventeen dollars with me?”

“Yes.”

“You’re that afraid of having any connection to me?”

“Yes,”

His eyes turned red.

“I know I was wrong. I mistook your understanding for proof that you didn’t hurt. I pushed Sienna’s illness onto you. My mother said those awful things, and I didn’t protect you.”

I nodded.

“Anything else?”

He rushed to continue.

“Sienna’s illness was never your responsibility. My family’s attitude was never your fault. That condo was the home you built, and I pushed you onto the couch.”

People in the lobby began looking over.

Nulan could not keep his voice down.

“I haven’t slept well this whole month. The living room is empty. The master bedroom is empty too. After

you left, I finally understood that you were the one holding that home together.”

I looked at the counter.

“Has the refund arrived?”

The staff member said, “Yes, it has.’

Nolan reached out to stop me,

“Can you at least let me finish?”

I stopped.

“Go ahead.”

He held out the stack of papers.

“I’ve planned everything again. We’ll buy a new place in your work city. It’ll be under your name. I’ll stand between you and my mother. I won’t manage Sienna’s life anymore. We can start over.”

I did not take the papers.

“Everything you’re saying now is right.”

His eyes lit up.

Then I continued.

“It’s too late.”

His hand froze in midair.

“What were those six years, then?”

“An expensive lesson.” I said.

He stared at me.

“So that’s all I am to you now? Just the price of a lesson?”

I picked up the refund receipt.

“Well, that and seventeen dollars. And we’re fully square on both.”

All the papers in his hand fell to the floor.

A few pages scattered open, covered with words like apology plan, wedding redo, housing budget.

I did not help him pick them up.

He crouched down to gather them, his voice fnuffled.

“Elena, don’t go.”.

I opened my phone.

Blocked him on messaging. Blocked his number. Blocked his email.

He looked up and saw what I was doing.

“You won’t even give me a chance to explain?”

“You used all your chances.”‘

I put my phone in my bag.

He stood.

“I’ll wait as long as it takes.”

I looked at him.

“Don’t. Waiting would still be harassment.”

His face collapsed.

“You really can say things this harshly now.”

I turned away.

“When I said things gently, you didn’t listen.”

As I walked out of the property office, he called my name behind me.

I did not look back.

After the seventeen dollars arrived, there was not even a single fee statement left between Nolan and me.
