The Overlooked Twin Is the Pack’s S-Class Warrior Chapter 08

I didn’t even bother to react. I knelt down and started picking up the oranges, putting them back in the bag one by one.

Then I looked up at him. “Cut them a break? I was the perfect daughter for eighteen years. Now I’m the villain because I picked my own school?”

Owen’s mouth opened and closed. No words. He jabbed a finger at me, furious. “You’re selfish! Cold-hearted! I always knew there was something off about you, and now you’ve proven it! Sarah couldn’t even get ready for Elvorz because of all your drama. Does any of that even get to you?”

“That’s her problem.” I hoisted the fruit and walked toward the stairs without a backward glance. “And next time you snatch my stuff, I’m calling the cops.”

Owen screamed behind me, but he didn’t dare follow.

The third one was Wesley.

On a rainy weekend. I came out of the library, umbrella in hand, and found him standing in the downpour. Soaked. His hair plastered to his forehead. Those green eyes I’d once ached over were bloodshot and fixed on me.

“Katherine.” His voice came out wrecked.

I stopped, the rain curtain between us.

“Why’d you block me? Won’t you even let me explain?” He moved toward me, but the rain dripping off my umbrella held him back.

“Explain what? How you trampled my feelings like they were nothing—for Sarah?” I asked, perfectly calm.

He clawed at his hair in frustration. “Katherine, I don’t get what I did to you. I didn’t know your score—I just assumed you tested like you always do. Is that some kind of crime?”

I let out a faint, hollow laugh. “You never even asked what I scored. You couldn’t spare five seconds.”

He went silent for a long time. Then his voice scraped out, “I’m sorry. I overlooked you. I was wrong, Katherine. I was an asshole. I always defaulted to Sarah because I thought you were tough enough to handle it, and she needed protecting.”

He stepped closer, tone full of earnest need. “Come back with me, okay? I swear, I’ll never let anyone hurt you again.”

But the volcano inside me had cooled long ago. There was nothing left but dead, silent ash.

I spoke quietly, the rain nearly swallowing my words. “Wesley, do you honestly think if you say a few sweet things, I’ll start crying and follow you home like I used to?”

He stiffened. “Katherine, I mean it…”

“Your meaning it is cheap.” I cut him off, eyes empty. “And you still don’t get it. I didn’t leave because I wanted to punish you, or because I was waiting for you to chase me. I left because I don’t need you anymore.”

Wesley went completely still. Rain streaked down his pale face like tears. “Katherine…”

“Go home, Wesley.”

I turned and walked into the rain without a single look back.
