The Don Waste My Child Chapter 01

The Don Waste My Child Chapter 01

My mafia boyfriend Kane Mortti tripped me at our best friends’ wedding so his lovely secretary could catch the bouquet.

While his lovely secretary held the bouquet high, I hit the floor. The baby in my belly, whom I kept a surprise for over three months, did not survive.

Blood spread beneath me, hot and fast, staining across the ballroom.

Kane stared down.

Just a flash of fear crossed his face.

Then he smiled.

“Get up. You’re making a scene no one wants to watch.”

The pain of miscarriage was too heavy.

I couldn’t answer.

So Kane got upset.

“Come on, I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just wanted you to slow down and let Ivy catch the bouquet. You know how she’s been struggling since her divorce. Have a heart.”

I still do not answer because of the pain of miscarriage.

So Kane moved.

He grabbed my arm like he was hauling up a dead body that he was so used to.

“Come on. How long are you going to lie there? What’s wrong—your period came early or what?”

The blood is coming like a fall.

I almost passed out.

Only now did Kane stop smiling.

The Don who never flinched—not in a negotiation with a rival Family—looked for one second like a man who had just broken something he didn’t know how to fix. “Willow. Where is all this blood coming from? Were you—”

I had planned to tell him after catching the bouquet.

The flowers, the cheers, his arms around me—that was the moment I’d chosen.

I’d rehearsed the words countless times.

Imagine how happy he would be, how rough he’s going to celebrate in bed tonight.

Now there was nothing left to celebrate.

I looked up at him. “I was pregnant.”

The words came out cold—no tears, no scream. “You just killed your own child over a slut. Are you happy now?”

I wake up at the most expensive hospital in Chicago.

Kane sat beside me.

After he finished texting Ivy, he finally looked at me.

“You didn’t know you were pregnant?” His jaw tightened. “You’re a grown woman. How do you not take care of your own body?”

Not a “how are you,” not an “are you ok,” but a complaint about how I didn’t take care of myself.

And there is not a trace of blood on him now.

While I was in surgery, he had gone home to change.

This is the moment I knew Kane didn’t love me anymore.

“I already arranged a dinner. You can apologize to Reyna and her husband for ruining their wedding.”

How polite he is!

I stared at the ceiling.

The fluorescent light buzzed—flat, white, endless. “Kane. Was it my fault? Did I fall on purpose?”

For a moment—just a moment—my cold words and the truth seemed to hit him.

He paused. Then he looked away. “You shouldn’t have run so fast.”

“I was just trying to slow you down. Let Ivy have the bouquet. She just wanted a bit of luck.” His voice softened when he said her name—the way it always did. “Why did you have to fight her for it?”

WHY?

I barely breathe.

Before the wedding, Reyna told Kane and me, eyes bright. “I’m aiming the bouquet for you two. Kane—I wouldn’t mind if you proposed at my wedding.”

That’s why.

Ivy and I were both reaching. Our fingers nearly touched the bouquet’s stems.

Then Kane’s leg shot out.

The bouquet bounced off my hand and landed in Ivy’s arms.
