My Future Dad Admitted He Abandoned Me Chapter 05

My Future Dad Admitted He Abandoned Me Chapter 05

Sharp, icy wind whipped against my cheeks as we fell down.

I squeezed my eyes shut and buried my face deep in Mom’s warm chest.

The crushing hurt I braced for never came. Only the cold robotic system tone echoed on repeat all

around me.

“Initiating exit from current reality. Interdimensional Teleport sequence activated.”

“Target coordinate: original reality. Transfer progress 10%… 30%… 70%… 100%. Transport

complete.”

A violent spinning sensation washed over me, then landed on soft bedding. The sharp, sterile

scent of medical disinfectant filled my nose.

I forced my eyes open. A blank white ceiling hung overhead, an IV drip hanging beside the bed. Warm sunlight streamed through the window panes.

“Hazel? Hazel, you’re awake?”

Mom’s voice rang out, thick with shocked joy.

I twisted my head to look at her. She sat beside the hospital bed. Her eyes were puffy and swollen. Fresh tear marks streaked her cheeks, but unfiltered relief glowed in her gaze..

“Mom…”

My throat felt scratchy and raw as I spoke. I wrapped my arms around her neck. “Are we dead?”

Mom pulled me into a crushing embrace, her frame still trembling faintly. She pressed soft kisses

to my forehead. Her voice cracked with sobs.

“We’re alive, baby. We made it home, back to our real world.”

A doctor wearing a white lab coat stepped inside a moment later.

“Ms. Macy, your daughter’s finally woken up. This is such wonderful news. You spent five years

trapped in a coma. The child’s suffered constant poor health since her preterm delivery, and this

pneumonia spiked a fever that kept her unconscious for three full days. We’ve all been extremely

worried.”

I froze. Five years? Pneumonia?

I could still vividly remember jumping off the warehouse roof. Seraphina’s nails dug into my wrist,

the cold pool water choking my lungs, the way Dad and Jensen pulled their hands away from me

without hesitation.

Mom noticed my confusion the second the doctor eft the room. She stroked my hair gently and

told me every single detail of the truth.

Her real name was Elara Macy, a top-tier architectural designer in this original world.

Five years prior, she’d been driving to a construction site inspection when a horrific car crash sent

her vehicle plunging into a river. Rescuers pulled her out, but she slipped into a deep coma

instantly.

While she’d been stuck in that coma, her mind got dragged into another world and locked to the Quest Target System. Her whole job was to make Vaughn Hale fall for her in a year flat, or her

mind would disappear for good.

I’d actually been conceived one month before Mom’s crash. Three months into her coma, doctors performed an emergency preterm cesarean delivery to bring me into the world. I’d lived in an incubator ever since, raised by my maternal grandparents.

The system should’ve released the moment Vaughn admitted he loved Elara, but cross-reality timeline glitches froze the binding process.

When I turned five in the alternate reality, a future Vaughn thirteen years ahead grew crazed with missing us. He’d hidden a beat-up old cell phone away for thirteen years. His desperate video call tore a spacetime rift open. The accidental link laid out our heartbreaking future and activated the system’s emergency world-leave feature.

“Will we never have to see any of them again?” I whispered. My fingers twisted the hem of Mom’s

shirt nervously.

The cold, distant Dad, Jensen who’d struck Mom, Seraphina who always played the victim, Lyla who’d throw herself into harm to frame me. I never wanted to lay eyes on any of them ever again.

But a faint, aching twinge lingered in my chest, like a tiny needle pricking my heart over and over.

Mom nodded firmly, resolve hard in her expression

“That’s right. We’re never going back. This place is our true home now. I’ll take care of you every

single day, and we’ll never be separated again.”

We stayed in the hospital for two full weeks before Mom signed our discharge papers, and we left

the medical center together.
