My Future Dad Admitted He Abandoned Me Chapter 02

Mom’s stare turned empty, lifeless.

Dad watched her calmly through the screen.

“I’d gotten drunk and mixed things up with Seraphina all those years ago. She needs me to survive, unlike you—you’ve never lacked a single thing in your life.”

“Even when you lied to me, I chose to trust you blindly.”

“I know you cling to me, but I’m worn out. I don’t want to keep putting on this performance anymore.”

His casual words landed heavy, snapping every thin thread keeping Mom’s frayed composure intact.

A rough, broken laugh bubbled up from her mouth.

“You’re repulsive. Both of you make me sick.”

She swept every dish and ornament off the table, sending glass and pottery clattering and breaking across the floor.

I’d never seen Mom spiral this far out of control.

Dad showed zero sympathy. His tone sharpened into a harsh reprimand.

“Elara, act like someone of your standing. Don’t throw a childish tantrum in public.”

She lifted her hand and slammed the video call shut.

Mom’s strength vanished all at once. She crumpled to the floor, screaming through her tears.

“System. I need to take my child and leave this reality.”

I stared numbly at the glowing three-day countdown hovering above Mom’s head. Some part of me already knew—she meant to leave Dad, and she wasn’t ever coming back.

Her phone buzzed frantically across the floor. She swiped to answer it mechanically, and Dad’s voice poured out, artificially soft and apologetic.

“Elara, I’m so sorry. I was stuck in back-to-back meetings and just wrapped up.”

Mom cut him off cold.

“Where are you right now?”

“Where are Seraphina and her daughter?”

Silence stretched on the line for a long moment, then Dad’s low chuckle broke through. He dropped every last pretense.

“You’ve figured it all out, huh? I’m at the old base residence. Lyla’s birthday party just kicked off.”

Mom grabbed my hand and led me to the entrance of the base housing. Bright lights spilled out from inside. The celebration was lavish and loud.

Dead center of the ballroom, Dad held a girl my age securely in his arms. Jensen Macy lifted a diamond-studded tiny crown and settled it onto her head.

Seraphina held a camera, capturing the moment with a tender tone.

“Our little princess Lyla turns five today.”

Everyone circled around her to celebrate. Every pair of eyes fixed on the girl, overflowing with fondness.

All the joy belonged to them. Mom and I had nothing at all.

My nose stung with unshed tears. I tilted my head up and spoke through a shaky throat.

“Mom, why don’t Dad and Jensen ever throw me birthday parties?”

“Is it ‘cause I misbehave? Do they not like me?”

Tears flooded Mom’s eyes instantly. She stroked the top of my hair gently.

“It’s not you, Hazel. They don’t deserve to love us.”

Jensen happened to glance over and spot us standing by the door. His expression darkened immediately, and he hurried over.

“What are you doing here?”

“Standing in the doorway scowling like that. Who do you think you’re upsetting?”

Mom’s face twisted into a half-smile, half-sob.

“Jensen, you knew about all of this the entire time, didn’t you?”

Jensen turned his head away. His tone was rigid and unyielding.

“Seraphina and Vaughn filed their marriage papers five years ago. You’re the outsider who came later. Are you here to ruin Lyla’s birthday party?”

Mom didn’t grab his arms and break down screaming like she would’ve before. She just simply lifted her head slowly, unnervingly calm.

Confusion flickered across Jensen’s face, but his voice stayed icy.

“Whether you’re putting on an act or finally seeing sense, behave yourself and don’t stir up trouble.”

A faint shiver rippled across Mom’s slender shoulders. A hollow smile tugged at her lips.

“I understand. I won’t cause any scenes.”

Jensen shot us a frigid glare. His words were firm and unnegotiable.

“Come inside. Don’t loiter out here giving people gossip to talk about, you’ll embarrass the Macy name.”

The heat inside the house wrapped around everyone else, yet I felt freezing cold down to my bones.

Dad never came over to us. He stayed focused on guiding Lyla through the birthday tradition.

He didn’t wander over to us until every last birthday tradition finished, not a flicker of remorse anywhere on his face.

“Since you know everything now, I won’t pretend anymore. Keeping up this charade’s exhausted me. If you hadn’t fabricated that ridiculous story, I would’ve cut ties with you years ago to be with Seraphina.”
