Outside the hospital, I took a breath and looked up.

It was a lovely, clear night. I drove up Old Miller’s Hill to look at the stars.

Sullivan and I used to have secret little spot up there.

But the path was now choked with weeds, long since lost to the undergrowth.

Constellations shift, stars drift, and the man who once loved me with everything he had is long

gone.

But that’s okay.

I’ll always remember watching the most beautiful sky with someone I loved.

A firefly drifted in front of me. I held out my hand. Caught it.

The little light blinked.

“Elara!”

I looked up, and in a haze, I saw young Sullivan standing there, grinning from ear to ear, pointing at

the fireflies blanketing the entire hillside. “See? I brought you stars.”

“Sully. I see them.” I opened my hand. The firefly fluttered away.

“I’m moving forward now.”

He cupped his hands around his mouth. “Go. Don’t look back.”

“I’ll find you again, and stay by your side always..”

“Then I’ll meet you in the future.”

I wondered what he’d be like.

The thought filled me with quiet, warm anticipation.
