He Pushed Me to Marry an Old Man, Then Cried When I Said Yes Chapter 09

To see me again, Ethan spent several days staking out the area near the Lancaster estate.

Three days later, he finally saw me walk out of the estate.

He stopped me on the road and handed me a bangle with red-rimmed eyes.

“Harper, I got your mother’s bangle back. I waited half a year just to return it to its rightful owner.”

His voice choked. “Harper, Vivian and I finalized our divorce a long time ago. From now on, you won’t have to give her anything that belongs to you ever again.”

“Harper, I really know I was wrong. Forgive me. Divorce Lucas, and let’s go back to the way things

were, okay?”

I took the bangle from him and said coldly, “Ethan, I told you. We can’t go back.”

“Why?” Ethan’s emotions surged. “After all these years together, how can we just end it like that?”

“I’m Lucas’s wife now,” I cut him off coldly. “I may be old-fashioned, but I take marriage vows

seriously. Once I marry someone, I don’t betray him

Ethan’s throat tightened, and he could not say another word.

He stood there in a daze, lost and hollow.

I walked around him and left without looking back.

From then on, there would be nothing more between us.

After that, I never saw Ethan again.

I only heard from friends that years of heavy drinking and an unhealthy lifestyle had caused his

kidney failure to return.

This time, his illness came on fast and hard. There was nothing the doctors could do.

Six months later, Ethan’s mother called me.

On the phone, Mrs. Shaw cried and begged me, “Harper, Ethan doesn’t have much time left. Please

come see him one last time, okay?”

Faced with Mrs. Shaw’s desperate pleas, I hardened my heart and refused.

Not long after that, Ethan died of his illness.

Soon after his death, Vivian was handed over by her parents to an older man to settle a debt. Every

day became a living hell under his abuse.

But none of that had anything to do with me anymore.

Lucas and I had a peaceful, loving marriage, and Old Mr. Lancaster’s health also began to improve,

almost miraculously.

Five months later, I gave birth to a daughter.

My husband was gentle. My daughter was sweet.

My life was happy and complete.
