Erased by Blood: The Alpha’s Lost Daughter on Trial Chapter 06

Erased by Blood: The Alpha’s Lost Daughter on Trial Chapter 06

Declan’s breathing grew ragged as he watched the screen. “No! This memory is wrong. Hazel is definitely lying.”

“My sister would never bully anyone. This has to be fabricated.”

The live chat exploded again.

“How could a memory pulled by the Moon Mirror be wrong?”

“He’s so biased… even now he’s defending that liar Helena.”

Hearing the pack members’ chatter, Declan fell silent.

My father’s face had gone hard. “Hazel has her own problems,” he said. “If she hadn’t insisted on staying in the pack, Helena wouldn’t have treated her like this.”

My mother nodded. “Right. Helena even offered her $100,000, and she still refused to leave.”

“Ever since she came back to our pack she hasn’t once mentioned her adoptive parents. I think Hazel’s just climbing, she wants our wealth and that heir status.”

“No wonder Helena tormented her.”

The pack’s discussion burst into noise again.

“What? I can’t— I’m literally suffocating.”

“They’re still blaming Hazel? My God, I’m going to lose it.”

“My heart goes out to Hazel. How did she survive three years in that house? If I were her I would’ve taken the money and left.”

“Yeah—why didn’t Hazel go back to her adoptive parents? That had to be better than this.”

I watched with a bitter smile on my face.

Why hadn’t I gone back to my adoptive parents? Because compared to this, that would have been a deeper hell.

Declan clearly hadn’t understood. He thought he’d found the smoking gun and sneered at me. “Hazel, don’t think you’re innocent just because people are talking to you. A selfish person like you doesn’t deserve to live. Wait until the third memory, you’ll be erased.”

“You drove Helena to attempt suicide three times. I don’t believe you haven’t done anything wrong.”

With Declan smug and sure, the trial continued.

The large screen played the next memory: my father drunk on the floor.

At the time, no one else had been in the pack house.

The Beta was out running an errand, my mother was visiting another pack, and Declan was at an Alpha meeting up North.

It had been only Helena and me, while my father lay unconscious on the floor.

The next morning, he had woken up clean and tucked into bed.

Helena had been there the whole night, holding a towel, worn out from worry. He had been moved to tears by her care.

At the same time, he felt nothing but disgust for me, his other daughter, who had slept soundly in her own room, seemingly indifferent.

He hadn’t scolded me then; he had simply resigned himself to the idea that I could never truly belong.

What turned resignation into fury was his belief that I had secretly hurt Helena.

Later, he walked into the kitchen and found me there, apparently pinning her down and slapping her face.

All Helena had wanted was to offer me a lollipop.

“Dad, why did Hazel hit me?” Helena had said. “I just thought you were sick and felt so sad. Eating a lollipop would make me feel better. I wanted to give one to Hazel, too. If she didn’t want it, why hit me?”

My father had looked at me with hate in his eyes. “Because she’s bad. She’s rotten to the core.”

Then he kicked me hard, I hit the floor and couldn’t get up.

Even after he punished me, Helena was terrified.

That very night she tried to kill herself by taking an overdose.

In the note she left, she wrote that being hit by me had left so deep a shadow that she didn’t know how to please me.

She was terrified, convinced that her very existence had caused my twisted behavior. She said she was willing to die to atone for her sins, only hoping everyone else would be okay.

Luckily, my mother, who always said good night to her, found Helena in time and rushed her to the pack hospital.

Utterly disappointed, the family decided that the pack court would be more appropriate for me than the pack psychiatric hospital.

They wanted me to admit my wrongdoing in front of everyone, then atone with my life.

The scene ended. Declan’s eyes flashed with the certainty of a man who thought the verdict was settled. “Hazel, what are you going to say now? Not only are you ungrateful, you hit someone. You were rotten to the core all along.”

“This isn’t the first time you forced Helena to try to kill herself, it’s the third time!”

“You evil thing, just wait! You’ll be erased.”

But the pack’s reaction wasn’t unanimous.

“I think there’s more to this.”

“Exactly. I can’t trust that liar Helena anymore. Let the Moon Mirror slap her down.”

I let out a bitter laugh and closed my eyes. I thought, Declan, I wasn’t the one rotten to the core. Why wouldn’t he believe me?

As if on cue, the Moon Mirror contradicted him again.

“After a comprehensive cross-check of the facts, the defendant Hazel was still not guilty of bullying,” it declared.

Declan went slack with surprise. Just as he opened his mouth to object, the Moon Mirror lit up once more and began to play a memory from my point of view.
