I Came Back to His Wedding to My Stand-In Chapter 06

I Came Back to His Wedding to My Stand-In Chapter 06

Fumbling in panic, Damon opened his phone.

My routes over the past few days matched the timeline of our love story almost perfectly.

The abandoned factory in North Edgewood.

That was where he once took a knife for me.

It was also where we first kissed.

The old vow tree at Temple Gardens.

That was where we had promised never to betray each other.

Starlight Plaza.

That was where he once flew hundreds of drones into the night sky and proposed to me.

Following the trail, Damon remembered our past one place at a time.

His brows drew tighter and tighter.

The dread in his chest grew stronger.

This did not look like nostalgia.

It looked like farewell.

As if I had been saying goodbye to everything we once were.

He clutched his chest, almost unable to breathe.

Among the locations was the café where I had met Luna.

James had attached a note below the file.

“Sir, we found signs of an argument between Mrs. Voss and Ms. Hale at this café. We paid a high price to obtain the security footage. It has been forwarded to your phone.”

The video thumbnail showed Luna holding a knife..

A cold sense of dread washed over Damon.

It felt as if something inside him cracked open, revealing a truth he did not dare face.

Luna accidentally glanced at his phone, and her face went pale.

She reached out to grab it.

“Damon, the baby seems restless again. Can you go get the doctor for me?”

Damon looked up.

He saw the calculation still lingering on her face.

His voice turned cold.

“The doctors have checked you several times. They said everything is fine.”

“If you feel unwell, go by yourself.”

He took the phone back and opened the video without hesitation.

Our conversation echoed through the hospital room.

“Help me buy a plane ticket to Veridia. I need to run. My distant relatives are there. I’m pregnant,

and I cannot let him know.”

“I’ve watched you. Your body is covered in injuries. You cannot fight me right now.”

“And if you die, your soul will be trapped in this world forever.”

“Isn’t that right, world-hopper?”

Damon’s grip on the armrest tightened until his veins stood out.

His eyes locked onto Luna, dark and terrifying.

“You told me Elowen framed you.”

“You told me she tried to get rid of my child and tricked you into going to a dangerous clinic.”

“Explain this.”

He threw the phone down.

The screen cracked across the floor.

Luna covered her ears and screamed.

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m sorry, Damon.”

“I was just scared my baby would grow up without a father.”

“I did not want you to be fooled by her again.”

“She abandoned you for three years. She refused to come see you.”

“Why do you still love her so much?”

“She does not deserve it.”

Luna’s words stabbed into the deepest wound in Damon.

He had thought we had both been forced apart.

He had thought we had both suffered the same longing.

But my coldness after I returned had shaken him.

Maybe I had never wanted to come back to him at all.

He helped Luna up, as if he were arguing with someone he could not see.

“Get up, Luna.”

“You are all I have now.”
