I Came Back to His Wedding to My Stand-In Chapter 02

I Came Back to His Wedding to My Stand-In Chapter 02

Before I came back, I had spent days imagining our reunion.

I thought Damon and I would hold each other and make up for every second we had lost.

Instead, on my very first day back, I was thrown out of my own home.

The System spoke in my mind.

【Host, I checked. Luna Carter really is allergic to the bracelet. Damon has spent a fortune over the past few years keeping her in luxury, and the bracelet’s material is indeed cheap enough to trigger her allergy.】

Of course.

When Damon gave me that bracelet, we had both been poor.

The bracelet had never been expensive.

You could tell how much someone was loved by how carefully they were cared for.

And Damon had cared for Luna very well.

Luna was not wrong for being cherished.

I only felt worthless for having treasured something he could replace so easily.

I pulled out the phone I had kept from three years ago and sent Damon a text that was three years too late.

“Let’s break up.”

Five minutes later, my phone began exploding with calls.

I turned it off.

At a bar, I drank one strong drink after another.

Then a delighted voice sounded beside me.

“Well, look who’s here. Future Mrs. Voss herself.”

“What are you doing in a place like this? Damon’s actually willing to let you out?”

I looked up.

The man across from me froze when he saw my face clearly.

“Elowen? You’re back?”

He had mistaken me for Luna.

I said nothing.

But he still dragged me into a private room.

The moment everyone inside saw me, they froze.

“Elowen! You’re back. Does Damon know?”

“After you disappeared, Damon collapsed from heartbreak. He was rushed to the ICU and almost didn’t make it.”

“Yeah. He was a mess for months. I barely recognized him. Thank God you’re back.”

Someone must have called Damon.

Five minutes later, the screech of brakes tore through the night outside.

Damon rushed in with bloodshot eyes.

“Elowen, don’t break up with me, okay?”

“I only kept Luna as your substitute.”

“Back then, she took advantage of me when I was drunk. She climbed into my bed for money.”

“I was in too much pain after losing you, so I kept her by my side.”

His friends immediately chimed in.

“Elowen, come on. You were gone for three whole years. Damon thought you abandoned him.”

“If it weren’t for Luna, he might not have survived.”

“Cut him some slack. He thought you were gone forever.”

“Are you really going to leave him over this?”

Everyone blamed me.

As if all of it were my fault.

But was I not in pain too?

I had hurt myself until there was almost no untouched skin left on my body.

When my depression was at its worst, I clenched my teeth so hard I thought they would shatter.

Did no one try to introduce me to someone who looked like him?

Of course they did.

Back then, I cried until my eyes ached, but I still shook my head.

“Damon Voss is Damon Voss.”

“No one can stand in for him.”

One by one, the others left.

Soon, only Damon and I remained in the room.

I did not want to talk to him, so I turned and left too.

In the hallway, he caught me in a tight embrace.

His voice sounded like that of a child who knew he had done something wrong.

“Elowen, hit me if you want.”

“Just don’t leave me.”

“I really cannot lose you again.”

At that exact moment, a man and a woman stumbled down the corridor.

The woman was so drunk she could barely stand, and the man had one arm around her.

Damon glanced over without thinking.

The next second, his pupils tightened.

He rushed forward like a madman, kicked the man to the floor, and pulled the woman into his own arms.

It was Luna.

His eyes went red with rage.

“You’ve gotten bold, haven’t you? Meeting your ex behind my back?”

I fell into a daze.

Once, when I had dinner with another man, Damon had looked at me the same way.

Violent.

Broken.

Terrified.

Luna kicked at his foot and sneered.

“Mr. Voss, your precious first love is back. Why are you still clinging to me?”

“Or did you actually fall in love with me?”

Damon glanced at me instinctively, then sneered back.

“Dream on.”

“A money-loving gold digger like you? I would never fall for you.”

“What about you? Are you jealous? Did you fall for me?”

Luna laughed coldly and helped her ex up from the floor.

“You are not worthy.”

Damon’s anger flared.

He shoved away the arm Luna had around her ex-boyfriend.

In the struggle, the ring on Luna’s hand flew off and fell through the open window into the river below.

Luna froze.

Then her eyes reddened with panic.

“Damon Voss, that was my mother’s ring.”

Damon stiffened.

Then he jumped into the freezing river without hesitation.

I closed my eyes and let a few tears fall.

Damon was afraid of water.

Back then, no matter how much I coaxed or begged, he would not even step into a swimming pool.

But now…

Damon Voss, was she really only a stand-in?

Luna stared at the struggling figure in the water, stunned.

Half an hour later, Damon climbed onto the bank, pale and soaked, holding the ring like a victorious soldier.

Then he threw it to her with a look of disgust.

“Typical. A cheap little thing, and you treasure it like it’s priceless.”
