His Last Cup of Warm Milk Came With Divorce Papers Chapter 16

My parents were livid.

They hurled insults at Leo, then turned on me.

“Raised in a group home. No wonder you are so petty. We should have never brought you back…”

“Fine. Then we are done.”

I cut them off coldly.

[She is finally awake.]

[What took her so long?]

[Honestly, she has done well to get this far. Not everyone is born with perfect clarity. It is easy to be

blind to the truth. She was never the one in the wrong.]

My mother’s expression shifted.

Her voice suddenly softened.

“What are you talking about? Who said anything about cutting ties?”

Charlotte sobbed louder, clutching my mother’s sleeve.

“Mom, it is all my fault. I should not have had this party.”

“I did not realize my sister hated me this much.”

“Correct. I do.”

A low voice came from behind me.

A shawl settled over my shoulders.

Sebastian had draped it around me, smoothing it into place.

Charlotte’s eyes locked onto our clasped hands, and her face went pale.

She looked up at him.

“Sebastian, Liliana hates you. She has been cold to you. She keeps misunderstanding you. She

wants a divorce. How can you…”

“How can I be so lovesick?” Sebastian’s expression stayed flat.

“Because she is the one I chose.”

“If loving someone with everything you have makes you a fool, then this world is the problem”

Something tiny bit at my heart.

Sebastian turned to my parents.

“Did you ever raise her?”

“Did you ever make it up to her?”

“You gave her nothing, then expected obedience. Who gave you that right?”

Then he looked at Charlotte.

“You keep saying you cannot leave this family. But you stole someone’s life for over twenty years.

“You lived in her home and spent money that should have been hers.”

“Have you ever once said a genuine sorry?”

“You played innocent in front of me, stirred up trouble, then turned around and cried to my wife.”

“Charlotte, did you think we were all born yesterday?”

“You want Liliana to be generous, forgiving, and understanding.”

“But who are you, a fraud, to ask that of her?”

He dropped his final words like ice.

“I grew up in the system too, and I have never claimed to be reasonable.”

“If you ever come near my wife again, going broke will be the least of your worries.”

[Wait. Her parents going bankrupt was Sebastian’s doing?]

[Now that is satisfying.]

[This obsessive husband actually shows up when it counts.)

He took my hand and Leo’s, his voice softening.

“Let’s go.”
