His Last Cup of Warm Milk Came With Divorce Papers Chapter 11

I did not know what had gotten into me.

Seeing the hurt in his eyes made my chest tighten.

Before I could speak, Sebastian let out a bitter laugh.

“Last night, I actually thought you…”

I snatched my phone back, swiped to a travel guide page, and held it up to him.

“I just wanted to take Leo to Disneyland.”

“He was running a fever yesterday, and he kept talking about it in his sleep.”

“I was not trying to leave.”

He looked at me, half doubtful and half hopeful.

But the defeat in his eyes began to crack, just slightly.

Thump, thump, thump.

Leo came running down the hall, dragging his little suitcase behind him.

He tugged at Sebastian’s shirt hem.

“Mommy and I were going to come find you. Why did you come back by yourself?”

The air went still for two beats.

Then Sebastian’s gaze settled fully on me.

Shock, relief, and disbelief warred across his face.

[All that effort driving back overnight was totally worth it now.]

[He was already heading downstairs the moment you called.]

[No flights left, so he drove through the night. He was already exhausted, and then he thought you

were leaving. His heart must have stopped for a second.]

His stare made my cheeks flush.

I crouched down beside Leo.

“Daddy stayed up all night worrying about you.”

“How about we push our trip to tomorrow?”

“Of course!”

He set down his little suitcase and wrapped his arms around Sebastian’s leg.

“Daddy, you should rest now. Mommy and I will not bother you.”
