The Laziest Girl Alive Chapter 06

The Laziest Girl Alive Chapter 06

My eyes swept the room and finally settled on my brother Ethan.

Ethan stepped forward, came to the couch, and crouched down so he was eye level with me.

“Nora,” he said softly, his voice a little rough, “why didn’t you tell us?”

I shifted, leaning back into a more comfortable position.

“Tell you what?”

“All of this,” he said after a pause. “Who you are and what you do.”

I looked at him, thought about it seriously, and gave him the most honest answer I had.

“It’s too much work.”

When he frowned, I added, “Just think about it. If I had walked in here and said, ‘By the way, I’m a

division director at the National Institute for Theoretical Physics, and I spend my days doing things

you can’t even pronounce,’ what happens next?”

He didn’t say anything.

He waited for me to finish.

“Mom and Dad would turn me into a walking trophy and show me off to everyone they know,” I

said. “The media would tear my entire life apart looking for a story, and then it would be endless

interviews, conferences, charity galas, public panels.”

I spread my hands.

“I hate walking downstairs to take out the trash. Do you really think I can survive all of that?”

“All I wanted was somewhere quiet where I could shut my brain off for a while,” I went on. “The Reed house seemed like a pretty good option.”

I sounded calm, but as he listened, Ethan’s eyes slowly reddened.

The next second, he stood up.

He didn’t say a word.

He just turned, walked over to the biggest main camera in the living room, and reached out.

Right in front of millions of viewers across the country, he covered the lens with his hand.

The feed cut to black in an instant.
