He Broke My Heart, My Family Broke His Empire Chapter 10

The Ashworth family butler led the search.

Holding a photo of Clara, he walked into an upscale restaurant and approached the manager who had been on duty that night.

“Have you seen this lady? Mr. Ashworth is looking for her.”

The manager stared at the photo for several seconds. The eyes seemed familiar, but the woman in the picture was elegant and confident, a world away from the ragged, wretched creature he had ruthlessly driven away just a few hours earlier.

He shook his head.

The butler called Julian, his voice laced with disappointment.

“Sir, my men have been searching all night. We still haven’t found Madam.”

On the other end of the line, Julian was in the old family house on Nantucket, listening to Felicity play the piano for his grandmother, the Ashworth matriarch.

He frowned, a familiar irritation gnawing at him. “Fine. Stop looking. If she doesn’t want to celebrate the holiday properly, let her stay outside.”

After he hung up, his expression soured.

The matriarch glanced at him.

“Julian, there are limits to everything. How many unsuitable women have you brought home over the years just to make her fall in line?”

“Your parents’ disastrous open marriage is not a model to be emulated.”

“Clara may cause scenes, but at least it proves she cares for you. And the Calloway family has funneled a great deal of capital into our firm. You shouldn’t treat her this way.”

“You’re not children. I’m still waiting for you to settle down.”

For the past few days, Julian had been on edge.
