Rejected by My Pack, Crowned by the Empire Chapter 06

“Serena, Damon is your sister’s intended mate. He’s Evelyn’s fated mate. How could you try to take

him from your own sister?”

Serena stood frozen.

My mother’s face was full of disappointment.

My father’s voice turned icy.

“This incident is never to be brought up again for any reason. Once Evelyn returns home, you will

give her a sincere, proper apology for your behavior.”

It was the first time Serena hadn’t gotten her way.

From that day on, the entire pack household descended into utter bedlam.

Serena unraveled completely. She stopped pretending to be sweet and sensible. Every day, she

threw tantrums.

“I love Damon! Why can’t I marry him?!”

“Evelyn is gone! Why can’t I have him?!”

Rage flared in Zayne’s eyes.

“What nonsense are you saying? Evelyn is just upset-she’ll come back!”

The house was in constant turmoil.

The servants tread lightly at all times, terrified of triggering her tantrums and drawing bad fortune.

My mother was driven to constant headaches and exhaustion from Serena’s endless outbursts. My

father grew more irritable by the day.

Damon only stopped by to ask about me, otherwise keeping his distance.

Zayne started staying out late, night after night.

The pack house, once bustling with life, now felt suffocating.

In the middle of all this chaos, they found themselves thinking of me more and more.

My mother sat on the sofa, watching Serena smash another vase, and found herself thinking of me.

Before I was taken, I had never once caused her any trouble.

Even as a young child, I helped out around the house.

Even after they tracked me down and brought me back into the family, I never uttered a single word of resentment for the years she’d lost me.

She had always told herself that since I was their biological daughter and Serena was an orphan, spoiling Serena a little more materially was her way of keeping things fair.

But looking at the girl in front of her now, it was painfully clear Serena had been spoiled beyond

repair.

She couldn’t bear to confront the extent of her favoritism toward Serena all these years-or to imagine what I must have suffered to leave without a word.

At two in the morning, Zayne stumbled home drunk, doubled over on the sofa with a stomach ache

He remembered all the times he’d come home wasted, and I was always there-making him hangover soup, bringing him water.

When he woke up with a stomach ache in the middle of the night, he’d find me sitting beside him, barely able to stay awake, yet still watching over him.

He used to find it annoying, taking my care for granted. Now, staring at the empty living room, his heart twisted sharply in a brutal, painful grip.

In the middle of a pack meeting, Damon glanced at the date in his notebook and froze.

It was my birthday-the same day he’d held the mating ceremony with Serena.

e remembered every year on my birthday: no matter how small or ordinary his gift was, I cherished it for months anyway.

Serena, on the other hand, only ever demanded more, throwing fits until everyone catered to her.

My father grew quieter every day.

Every time he passed my room, he stopped and lingered.

The room was empty, but he kept half-expecting me to push open the door and say, finally worried about me? Serves you right.”

“So you’re

Then he would promise me: “Daddy will never let anyone hurt you again.”

But I never showed up.

As the days passed, fear set in, and they began searching frantically.

My mother texted me every single day.

[Evelyn, please come home. I knows I was wrong.)

[I miss you so much.]

My father pulled every connection he had to look for me.

Zayne and Damon searched everywhere they could think of.

They questioned everyone who knew me, but no one knew where I was.

It was as if I had vanished into thin air.

With no other choice, they filed a police report.

But the police discovered that since I had never been registered for Pack Membership, there were

no identity records or financial transactions to trace.

The officer shook his head.

“You should have done this years ago. Without registered pack status, there’s practically no way to

find her.”

My mother nearly collapsed when she heard that.

Zayne’s eyes turned bloodshot, his hands gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles went

white.

A terrible thought hit him—what if something had happened to me? Why else would I disappear and

leave them all worried sick?

Zayne drove like a madman, running red lights.

His eyes wild, he burst into the hospital.

“Have you

admitted any young woman roughly my height, with similar facial features to me and striking good looks, brought in as a patient lately?”

Every nurse shook their head.

In one day, Zayne had covered almost the entire city.

That night, he walked dejectedly down a hospital corridor when a familiar figure flickered past in

the corner of his eye.
