My Reborn Ex Dumped Me Again. Joke’s on Him, I Married Better Chapter 08

Dorian returned very late.

I lay in bed, still awake, listening to the sounds in the courtyard.

Footsteps faded into the room next door. A while later, I heard a door close.

I turned over and slowly shut my eyes.

When I woke the next morning, Mrs. Farrow had already laid out breakfast.

I washed up and stepped out, nearly colliding with Dorian emerging from the adjacent room.

He had changed into a charcoal gray lounge set, his hair uncombed, a few strands falling across his forehead. He looked nothing like the cold, imposing figure from yesterday.

He spotted me and nodded. “Morning.”

“Morning.”

We walked into the dining room one after the other. The long table was covered with breakfast.

Mrs. Farrow watched us take our seats, beaming. “Eat while it’s hot, both of you.”

Dorian picked up his fork and placed a small pastry onto the plate in front of me.

I glanced at him. His expression didn’t shift as he withdrew his fork and lifted his coffee cup for a

sip.

“We’ll do the wedding gown fitting today,” he said. “wo o’clock. I’ll have the car sent for you.”

“Alright.”

“I had the designer prepare several options. See which one you like. If none of them work, we’ll

change them.”

In my last life, when I married Grayson, my mother had ordered me a custom gown that never fit.

On the wedding day, I stood at the altar, acutely aware of the empty gap at my waist, clutching the skirt with my fingers to keep it from slipping.

Grayson never looked at me. Not once.

In this life, someone had spent two months preparing for me.

After breakfast, Dorian went to his study. Mrs. Farrow pulled me aside to take my measurements.

She muttered as she worked. “Your waist is far too narrow. We need to fatten you up. Mr. Harrington says you’re too thin. He told me to build you back up.”

Three years. When I lived at the Vances‘, my mother complained if I took an extra bowl of rice. “Don’t eat so much, girls need to watch themselves, no one will marry you otherwise.”

I’d trained myself to be hungry. My stomach had shrunk. Now I couldn’t even finish a single bowl.

“No rush,” I said. “One step at a time.”

Mrs. Farrow put away the measuring tape and nodded. “That’s right. No rush. We’ll build you back

up slowly.”

At two o’clock sharp, the driver was waiting at the door.

I changed and came downstairs. Dorian had somehow already switched into a formal suit and

stood by the car, waiting for me.

When he saw me appear, he opened the door.

I bent to climb in. He shut the door and got in from the other side.

As the car pulled away, he retrieved a velvet box from the center console and handed it to me.

“What’s this?”

“Open it.”

I lifted the lid. Inside lay a sapphire pendant on a platinum chain.

“It’s too much. I can’t accept this.”

“Just something pretty to wear. It’s nothing too fancy.”

“Mr. Harrington,” I said, “you don’t have to be this good to me.”

Dorian turned his head to look at me.

“Seraphina.

“I’m good to you because you deserve it.”

I said nothing. I closed my fingers tightly around the
