He Brought His Mistress, I Brought My Lawyers Chapter 17

He Brought His Mistress, I Brought My Lawyers Chapter 17

He smiled bitterly, a nearly obsessive resolve hardening in his eyes.

As long as he found Avery, he would win her back. He would spend the rest of his life making up for everything he owed her.

The phone on the bedside table vibrated. It was his chief assistant.

“Have you found her?” Ethan sat up sharply, his voice filled with expectation.

The other end was silent for a second. The assistant’s voice was tired and frustrated.

“No, sir. The Caldwell family has used every resource to hide her movements. Our people can’t get close. Her credit cards and social media are all inactive. Her properties have been handed over to lawyers. It’s as if she’s… vanished.”

His hope collapsed. Irritated, Ethan rubbed his temple. They couldn’t find her? How was that possible? In Boston, there was no one he, Ethan Ward, couldn’t find.

He was about to explode when the assistant spoke again, this time hesitantly.

“However, while checking Miss Caldwell’s email, we found a strange anonymous account. It sent her emails frequently a few days before the wedding.”

“Just deal with it. You don’t need to report every obsessive fan to me,” Ethan cut him off impatiently. Avery came from a privileged background; there were always inappropriate admirers. He was used to cleaning up such messes.

“No, sir,” the assistant said, his voice quickening. “This is different. We traced the source of the emails… and it seems to be connected to Miss Pike.”

Sloane?

Ethan froze. Sloane and Avery? How could they be connected? Aside from a few arguments in front of him, they had almost no private interaction.

He couldn’t understand it and simply ordered, “Send me everything.”

The notification sounded almost at once. He opened the encrypted file.

The page loaded. Ethan swept his eyes over it, then his pupils contracted sharply.

At the top of the email records was one sent three days before the wedding.

The sender was the anonymous account, and the email contained only one thing: an iCloud shared album link he knew all too well.

It was the album Sloane had sent him.

In an instant, every trace of indifference, irritation, and confusion in his eyes vanished, replaced by a violent rage that nearly burst through his chest.

Avery had seen it.

That photo of him, half-naked in the Newport wedding suite, while Sloane wore that glaring “Mrs. Ward” robe.

He pressed his tongue hard against his back teeth, a terrifying storm gathering in his dark blue eyes.

He had never imagined that Sloane had not only taken the photos but had sent them to Avery.

No wonder Avery had said the ring size wasn’t right.

No wonder she had given everything up so calmly and walked away without looking back.

No wonder… she had looked at him like he was trash.

It had all been Sloane.

She had provoked everything. She had personally handed Avery the knife, letting her see his betrayal and stupidity in the cruelest way possible.

Ethan snatched up his phone and called his assistant back, his wounded hand clenched into a fist.

“Find out where Sloane is. Now.” His voice was as cold as poison.

He had once given Sloane a black card with no spending limit. All her expenses came from that card, which made locating her easy.

The assistant took less than a minute.

“Miss Pike made a charge two minutes ago at L’Espalier on Newbury Street.”

The light in Ethan’s eyes became dark and unreadable. He hung up, grabbed his Porsche keys, and strode out.
