The Day My Don Got Sick, I Took His Empire Chapter 04

On the way to the private wing, Dante texted.
Where are you?
Half a minute later, another one came.
I feel awful.
He must have been truly scared.
Before, any time he felt even slightly off, I stayed by his side.
Water. Reminders. Midnight checks.
If he frowned, I woke up at once.
Dante was used to it.
He knew I would always be there when something happened.
When the car pulled up to the Bellandi family private wing, Marco waited at the entrance.
He was always perfectly dressed.
But today his face was gray, his cuffs wrinkled.
He had clearly been in chaos for hours.
“Madam,” he said quietly. “Mr. Bellandi’s state worsened overnight. The specialist did a preliminary review and said something was wrong. They want a private evaluation right away.”
“Have they finished it?”
“Yes.” Marco hesitated. “Not all the findings are back yet.”
I nodded. “Take me there.”
Marco stared at me for half a second.
He probably realized I wasn’t surprised.
But he didn’t dare ask.
The room door opened.
Dante was lying against the headboard, hooked to a monitor.
He had lost weight in just a few days.
Pale face. Dry lips.
His usual careless power was buried under weakness.
He finally looked messy.
When he saw me, he let out a sigh of relief.
“You’re here.”
In that moment, the dependence in his eyes was almost instinctive.
I set my bag on the chair and walked to the bed.
“What happened?”
Dante closed his eyes.
“I feel weak. My head hurts. They said it needs attention.”
He made it sound like nothing.
Like he had just worked too much and caught a cold.
I tucked his blanket in.
“Don’t worry. You’ll be fine.”
Dante looked at me and grabbed my wrist.
“Vivienne, thanks for your hard work.”
I looked down at that hand.
That hand once led me into the Bellandi estate.
Once shielded me at family dinners.
Later, it held the waists of one woman after another.
Brought them into my home.
Into my bedroom.
I didn’t pull away.
I just said, “We’re husband and wife.”
Dante’s face relaxed.
Like he had finally gotten the assurance he needed.
He closed his eyes, his voice softer.
“I knew you wouldn’t abandon me.”
Of course I wouldn’t.
I was his wife.
And the one everyone would now report to.
Soon, the specialist knocked and came in.
“Madam, can I speak with you outside?”
The hallway lights were cold white.
The specialist glanced at me before handing me the report.
“The private review is complete.”
I took it.
The key finding was right on the first page.
The warning was confirmed.
The specialist lowered her voice.
“We recommend handling this quietly. We also need to review everyone connected to the matter recently.”
“In this situation, it’s best to let the family handle the message.”
I looked at the report and nodded.
“I’ll handle it.”
I took the report.
From this moment on, Dante no longer controlled anything.
His routines. His reputation. The board. The family council. How the Bellandi family would contain this.
They would all come to me.
I walked back into the room.
Dante was still reclining on the bed.
Sunlight fell on his face, making him look almost innocent.
I sat beside him and watched for a moment.
The man finally cornered by his own choices.
“Dante.”
He opened his eyes. “What?”
I kept my voice gentle.
“There’s a problem.”
His brow furrowed.
“What problem?”
I didn’t answer right away.
I just placed the report gently in front of him.
At the top, in bold black letters, right in front of his eyes:

Risk confirmed.
