The Man I Mourned for Six Years, the Man She’s Been Living With Chapter 08

The Man I Mourned for Six Years, the Man She’s Been Living With Chapter 08

After leaving that city, I opened a small flower shop in a quiet southern town.

The cost of living was low, and the locals were generous and friendly.

Every day, I trimmed flowers and put together bouquets for customers.

No difficult customers. It was peaceful.

Sometimes, old coworkers would tell me that Ethan was still looking for me. But every time I heard

his name, the hold he had on me loosened a little more.

Then one night, as I was finishing up and about to close the shop, a heavy rainstorm started.

Leaves had clogged the drain outside. Water rose over the curb and started flooding into the shop.

I rushed to clean up the mess. As I was mopping the floor, someone stepped inside.

Without looking up, I said apologetically, “Sorry, we’re closed. If you need something, you can come back tomorrow morning at ten.”

But the person didn’t move. He took a few steps closer. When he spoke, his voice was trembling.

“Olivia. I knew you were alive. I finally found you.’

I froze at the sound of that voice. I looked up and met Ethan’s bloodshot eyes.

He was thinner, exhausted, barely recognizable from before.

I stepped back and said coldly, “I don’t know you.”

Ethan’s shoulders slumped. His voice cracked. “Olivia, I know I was wrong. I know how hard those years were for you. I watched the cemetery footage. Olivia… were you afraid, all alone?”

I looked at him and let out a bitter laugh. “Ethan, don’t you see how pathetic this looks? Do you really think this proves anything?”

“While I was suffering, what were you doing? You were sleeping with Aria. Marrying her. Being happy with her.”

“Now, when I’ve finally found a little peace, you show up to apologize and ask if I was afraid. Isn’t that too little, too late?”

But Ethan acted like he hadn’t heard me. He pulled me into his arms and sobbed. “Olivia, I know I was wrong.

“All that time you were gone, I was so scared I couldn’t sleep. I was terrified you were really gone.

Forgive me. Please, forgive me.’

The arms I once longed for holding me again now made my skin crawl.

I stomped on his foot and shoved him away. “Enough, Ethan. There is no “us” anymore. I gave you a chance six years ago. You threw it away.”

I looked at him coldly and said, “Get out. Now.”

Ethan’s eyes were red. He tried to step closer again. A voice came from behind him.

“Mr. Whitmore, my girlfriend said she doesn’t want to see you anymore.”

“Girlfriend?” Ethan looked at me in disbelief, his voice choked. “Olivia, you have to be lying. You love me so much. You can’t be with someone else.”

Noah stepped in front of me, shielding me. He looked at Ethan with disdain. “Mr. Whitmore, have some self-respect. We’re not like you.”

“Olivia and I have only eyes for each other. If you don’t leave, I’m calling the police.”

I took Noah’s hand tightly and got into the passenger seat of his car.

As we drove away, I saw Ethan running after us in the rearview mirror.

Finally, he fell to the ground and wept.
