I Bought a Boyfriend, Then He Spent Years Looking for Me Chapter 12

During our alma mater’s anniversary celebration, Ethan Carter and I both went back.

As an outstanding alumnus, he had to give a speech onstage.

The school was still the same school.

Only the young faces had changed batch after batch.

There would always be young people.

There would always be people in their brightest years, chasing their ideals.

My alumni name tag fell out of my pocket.

A senior picked it up for me and said in surprise,

“Senior, you’re Mia Sullivan?”

“You know me?”

“I’m interning at Mr. Carter’s company.”

“You’re famous at our company.”

“Really?”

I had gone to Ethan Carter’s company once.

I sat in the lobby waiting for him.

When the front desk registered my name, she had the same reaction.

“You’re Mia Sullivan?”

Even today, I still didn’t know why.

The junior student said,

“The company project used to have a core underlying algorithm.”

“They say Mr. Carter wrote it when he first started building the system.”

“He left a comment in it.”

“If you meet Mia Sullivan, please tell her I love her.”

“Everyone who has worked with that algorithm can see that line.”

I stood stunned for a long time.

Then I heard the junior say happily,

“That’s so good. Mr. Carter finally found the person he was looking for.”

After the speech ended, Ethan Carter and I slowly walked along the path of our old life.

We reached the library entrance.

Ethan Carter looked at the large tree on the left.

“This is where you confessed to me back then.”

“Mm. I remember.”

“I was so brave then.”

He stared at it quietly, as if his memories had drifted very far away.

“Ethan Carter, were you happy in college?”

He had run everywhere for work.

He had been slandered.

He had been lonely.

I thought he probably hadn’t been happy.

But Ethan Carter said,

“I was very happy.”

“Because you were there.”

“Even the pain became happiness.”

He turned, lowering his eyes to look at me just like he had back then.

“Mia Sullivan, now it’s my turn to say it.”

“My ninth year of loving you is almost here.”

“Give me a chance, okay?”

It started snowing again.

Snowflakes landed in his hair.

I curved my lips into a smile.

“Please take care of me in the new year.”

Happy New Year, my boy.

Happy New Year, my youth.

Even with regrets left behind.

We were always the best version of ourselves.
