The Man I Mourned for Six Years, the Man She’s Been Living With Chapter 02

It felt like my heart was being crushed in a vise, and the pain made my whole body stiff.

Aria pushed Ethan away as he tried to approach her and shrank back.

“The doctor said it’s only been a month. If I end it now, it’s barely even formed yet.”

“I’ll walk away with nothing. I’ll give you the signed divorce papers. You… you should make things right with Olivia.”

With that, she rushed out the door without looking back.

Ethan’s face went pale, and he immediately went after her.

I instinctively blocked him, trying to stop him and get answers, but he shoved me hard.

“Olivia!” His eyes were full of disgust for me, his voice icy. “No matter how much of a scene you make, this is between the two of us!”

“Aria has had severe depression ever since you threatened her six years ago. When she gets upset, she loses control and does reckless things.”

“It took me so long to get her back on her feet emotionally, are you really trying to push her over the edge? If anything happens to her, I will never forgive you.”

I lost my balance and fell backward. A piece of broken glass sliced across my neck. Blood poured down, hot against my skin.

Right before I blacked out, I heard Derek and Ethan talking.

“Ethan, Olivia is bleeding a lot!”

“Call an ambulance and take her to the hospital. Clean this up. Aria can’t handle the sight of blood.”

When I groggily woke up, nurses were whispering in the hospital room.

“Ms. Crane only had a slight risk of miscarriage, but her husband got her a private suite and hasn’t left her side. He’s so worried.”

“And look at this one. She almost had her carotid artery severed. So dangerous. She’s been awake for a while, and no one has even come to see her. It’s heartbreaking.”

“Funny how different people’s lives can be.”

After the nurses left, I slowly opened my eyes and let out a bitter laugh.

I touched the bandage on my neck, and tears fell. I wiped them away and tried to get up and check myself out.

Just as I sat up, Ethan stormed into the room, grabbed my wrist, and said coldly, “Olivia, what the hell are you trying to pull?”

“Faking my death was my idea. It has nothing to do with Aria.”

“If you have a problem, come at me. Why did you leak stories to the media calling her a homewrecker?”

“She just woke up, and seeing all those comments, she got so upset she almost threw herself off the roof. Did you know that?”

He was so strong it hurt. I felt the blood drain from my face.

I managed to shake off his hand and snapped back, “Ethan, I never did anything like that!”

He let out a mocking scoff and shoved his phone in my face.

The screen was full of posts calling Aria a homewrecker.

[Whitmore Holdings’ new wife, Aria Crane, is a mistress who broke up a marriage.]

There were also long posts about how Ethan had faked his death to start a new life with his mistress, all built on lies.

Whitmore Holdings’ stock price was taking a hit because of it.

And the media outlet that first published the story was the same one my best friend used to work for.

Ethan’s eyes were cold, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Still going to lie? Doesn’t your best friend work there? She’s always been the first to get involved in anything related to you.”

I stood there stunned, then I tried to explain, “She moved abroad three years ago. She doesn’t work there anymore.”

“Stop lying!” Ethan cut me off harshly, his eyes full of disappointment. “Olivia, how did you become so manipulative?”

“You used to be such a kind person. Now you’re practically trying to kill Aria and her baby.”

He paused, his voice softening. “Have you forgotten how much it hurt when you lost your child?”

I looked up, locking eyes with him.

It felt like something was tearing my heart open all over again.

I remembered. Six years ago, the day I found out I was pregnant, I walked in on Ethan and Aria in our new bedroom.

I had just found out about the affair. Before I could confront him, I got so emotional I ended up in the hospital.

Later, I went home, still in a daze, and heard those sounds coming from inside.

I ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and charged at them. But Ethan, trying to protect Aria, shoved me hard into the vanity.

A sharp pain in my abdomen, warmth spreading beneath me. I lost the baby right there.

That was what led to his tearful apologies and suicide threats. That was why I caved and believed he had changed.

My mouth tasted bitter. I gave a sad, hollow smile, my voice raspy. “Ethan, Aria Crane will always be seen as a mistress. What you have will always be something to be ashamed of.”

“And you don’t get to talk about my child.”

“Shut up, Olivia!” Ethan snapped, his eyes icy cold, without a hint of guilt. “This is between you and me. It has nothing to do with Aria.”

He lowered his voice, looking down at me, his voice laced with threat.

“All those years you spent saving every last dollar… that was for your foster mom’s heart surgery, wasn’t it?”

“I hear they’ve finally found a match.”
