The Daughter They Never Wanted Chapter 07

The Daughter They Never Wanted Chapter 07

Daisy transferred into my class.

Within days, she’d painted herself as the poor, innocent victim and turned the whole class against me.

My roommate sneered, “Daisy, you’re so pitiful. Stuck with a snake like her.”

She didn’t get to finish the sentence. I hurled my textbook straight at her head.

She shrieked and ducked.

The teacher pulled us in. He watched the security footage, sighed and looked at Daisy.

“I don’t care what’s going on between you two. Orchestrating a campaign to isolate her is unacceptable.”

Daisy’s smug smile dropped when the teacher told her to apologize.

“Why should I, sir?”

Every other time before, everyone had taken pretty Daisy’s side and forced me to apologize.

“Because she has good grades,” a girl muttered.

A wicked idea clicked in Daisy’s head.

She looked at the rankings. My name at the top. Hers at the bottom.

She wobbled like she might faint.

“So what? Grades don’t mean anything!”

I raised an eyebrow. Was she going to study hard and beat me?

Of course not. Daisy kept partying. Kept running her mouth.

She kicked her feet up and sneered, “Some people think they’re better because they study. News flash — you’ll still end up working for me.”

SAT was close.

Kate came running to me. “Nancy, Daisy told me to put laxatives in your drink on exam day. Is that… a crime?”

I blinked. “Yeah. It is.”

“What do I do? If I don’t do it, she’ll destroy me!”

“Tell her you did it. Say I didn’t drink it.”

Kate nodded and ran off.

Daisy knew how much I cared about the exam. Of course she’d try to ruin it.

And she wasn’t done yet. When she found out the laxative plan had failed, she moved on to her next trick.

She bribed the girl sitting behind me. Told her to pass me cheat notes.

But that girl’s hands shook too hard. The teacher caught her folding the paper.

“Hand it over!”

The girl burst into tears. “It’s Nancy! She’s the one trying to cheat!”

Daisy watched from her seat. Smiling.

She thought she’d throw me off my game. But I didn’t even look up, just kept writing like nothing was happening around me.

The teacher looked at my paper. Took one look at the girl’s instead. And kicked her out.

She was still screaming when they dragged her away. Daisy frowned.

Time ran out. I finished the last question and went back to double-check my answers.

Daisy couldn’t take it. She stood up. Ran at me. Grabbed my answer sheet and tore it to pieces.

I just stared at the shreds.

Teachers tackled her. Held her down.

The bell rang. Exam over.

Daisy smiled. “You’re finished, Nancy.”

Three seconds passed. Then I smiled back.

“You didn’t know?” I said. “I already got early admission. This exam never mattered to me at all.”
