The Girl He Left Behind Chapter 19

The Girl He Left Behind Chapter 19

I smiled at the deposit notification.

Caspian said, “If you wanted money, I could’ve given it to you.”

“That’s not the point. I earned this.”

Whether Evan or Caspian—I’d never chased anyone for their wealth.

But what was rightfully mine, I’d take without hesitation.

“What now?” Caspian asked. “Are you really going to forgive them?”

“Of course. I took their money, after all.”

I’d keep my word.

I filmed a forgiveness video.

But in the video, I cried. Again.

I said I forgave him, but the tears didn’t stop flowing.

I guarantee that video did him no favors.

Evan used to complain I cried too much.

But he didn’t know. I cry easily because I’m emotionally expressive.

It doesn’t mean I’m weak.

……

Christmas came.

Caspian and I walked hand in hand through the streets.

—

He stopped in front of a store.

“That’s where I first saw you.”

I used to work there freshmen year.

“I was exhausted. Sat down for a while. You brought me a cup of hot water.”

Caspian’s eyes softened.

“You said, ‘You don’t have to buy anything—my boss already left. Stay as long as you need.'”

I rubbed my nose. “I remember. I thought you couldn’t afford anything. Turns out you could’ve bought the whole store…”

Caspian laughed. “Then you grabbed some snacks and fed the stray cats outside.

“I still remember that image.”

But later—when he came back to properly introduce himself—I’d already quit.

He searched for me for a long time.

But by then, I was Evan’s girlfriend.

Caspian said nothing. He just lowered his eyes and walked away alone.

For two years, he watched me laugh with Evan, hug him.

But that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part was that Evan didn’t cherish me.

—

The person Caspian treasured was treated like an annoying accessory by Evan.

He struggled between morality and desire.

Finally, Evan delivered the opportunity to his doorstep.

To hell with morality. Caspian thought.

I’ll take the heat. I’m trying anyway.

I sighed. “Caspian, with that kind of persistence, you could conquer the world.”

“Yes.”

He looked at me seriously.

“So, will you take me with you when you study abroad?”

I blinked. “How did you know…”
