“So I decided to be the villain instead.”

“I ‘seduced’ you. Made you cheat. And took all the blame on me.”

He’d inserted himself into my life as a ‘penitent,’ taking care of me, showing off his physique, going through a whole one-man show while everyone else was clueless.

“What if your plan failed?” I asked.

“That’s okay too.” He smiled, gentle. “At least when you were hurting, I was there with you. That’s enough.”
