I Was His Secret Genius, Now I’m His Biggest Regret Chapter 25

Ethan and Ava disappeared through the factory doorway.

Daisy wanted to chase after them, but Clayton grabbed her.

“Dad!” she screamed, struggling against him. “Mom left!”

Clayton’s chest ached so badly he could barely breathe, but he held his daughter tight.

“Give Mom some time,” he choked out, not even knowing what he was saying. He felt as if his soul had been ripped away, leaving only a hollow shell.

He watched her receding back, a great, empty space carved out in his chest.

Beau stood where he was, tears falling uncontrollably.

“Mom really doesn’t want us anymore,” he murmured, his voice as light as the wind.

Daisy finally broke down in his arms, sobbing.

“Dad, I was wrong… I really know I was wrong…”

Clayton held her and couldn’t say a word.

He looked at the empty doorway.

There was nothing there anymore.

The afternoon sun spilled in, casting a glaring patch of white on the floor.

He suddenly remembered a day, many years ago, when Ava had walked into his lab just like that. The sunlight had fallen across her, and she had smiled at him, her face full of love and trust.

He would never see that smile, the one that had belonged only to him, ever again.

After that day, Clayton and his children checked into a hotel in downtown Nashville.

He didn’t disturb Ava again.

But his absence didn’t mean the matter was over.

That afternoon, Ava received a call from her largest distributor in Tennessee.
