Walking Out On My Husband Chapter 05

“Chloe!”

Julian, who hadn’t moved a muscle until now, rushed over and shoved me back.

“How could you hit someone!”

Lily ran over, threw her arms around her mother, and started crying.

“Mom, they’re bullying us. We’re leaving. Right now.”

Susan thrashed around.

“I’m this old and someone hits me in the face? I’m done! I can’t take this!”

She lunged for the table and grabbed a fruit knife.

Mom threw herself in front of me, terrified I’d get hurt.

Her lips trembled with fear. But she didn’t back down an inch.

Julian snatched the knife out of Susan’s hand.

When he turned to look at me, his eyes were full of rage.

“Chloe, you apologize. Right now.”

I ignored him. Told Mom to go to the bedroom.

Julian grabbed my wrist. His grip was so hard it felt like he’d snap it.

“Apologize!”

Lily stood behind him, arms crossed, watching me. That smug look on her face made me sick.

My chest heaved. I said it slowly, word by word.

“I’m not apologizing. Both of them. Out. Now.”

Julian stepped in front of them. His voice was ice.

“You sure about this? They go, I go.”

He stared at me, dead certain.

In all our years together, we’d barely fought.

The few times we did, I was always the one who caved.

Just like when we were dating. I fell for him on sight. Chased him for a whole year.

Everyone knew how crazy I was about him.

That’s why Julian never thought twice.

“Then go.”

Clean. No hesitation.

His smirk froze. He stared at me in disbelief.

When he realized I wasn’t bluffing, he scoffed, grabbed Lily and Susan, and walked out.

The door slammed so hard the walls shook.

This time, I finally exhaled.

Over the next few days, Julian didn’t come home.

He took Lily and her mother all around New York. Posted photos to every account he knew I could see. Didn’t care one bit.

Or rather, he wanted me to see.

He was betting I’d crawl back and beg, just like before.

When Mom saw me packing, she didn’t ask questions this time. Didn’t try to talk me out of it.

She just quietly helped me pack.

When we finished, I called a moving truck and hauled everything to an apartment I’d owned before the marriage.

My car was fixed, too.

The day we left, the weather was unexpectedly clear.

I placed the divorce papers on the kitchen table and walked out without looking back.
