Everything was happening again, step by step.

The bloody future I had seen in my coma flashed through my mind. I had no choice but to believe it had been real.

That was why I had filed for divorce early. That was why I had accepted Bennett’s help, trying to rewrite the path to my own destruction.

I pulled my thoughts back to the present and looked at Graham’s shocked, terrified face. The last of my hesitation vanished.

“You don’t need to understand,” I said, my voice flat. “You just need to know that the Hart Foundation board vote will conclude within three days.”

I turned to the housekeeper.

“Show him out.”

Graham didn’t move. Like a drowning man, he took another step forward.

“Ava, if you still care about me and Piper, I swear I’ll never see her again.”

I looked at him coldly and asked the question that had lingered for so long.

“And the child?”

Graham’s body stiffened. His Adam’s apple bobbed. He seemed to be wrestling with himself, but it only lasted for a few seconds.

Then he lifted his head, his eyes full of a desperate eagerness to please.

“If you don’t want to see him… I can give him up, too.”

The sentence was a poisoned dagger. It pierced the last soft part of my heart and shattered it into dust.

I had thought my hatred for him came from his betrayal and cruelty. Only now did I realize that what I hated most was the selfishness so deeply rooted in his bones that it was incurable.

He would even use his own child as a bargaining chip.

What could I possibly expect from a man like that?

The last remnant of our past was burned away by those words.

“Get out.”

I raised my hand and pointed to the door, forcing out the two words with all my strength.

Graham’s face went white, as if he’d just been sentenced to death.

Over the next three days, everything proceeded according to plan.

With Bennett’s guidance, the Hart Foundation board held an emergency meeting. The vote to remove Graham from all his positions passed unanimously. Not only was he kicked out of the foundation, but legal proceedings were also initiated to recover all profits he had gained through improper related-party transactions.

Several top private clubs in Virginia also permanently revoked his membership on grounds of “moral turpitude.”

Overnight, Graham Lockwood fell from a man who had married into high society back to a nobody, now saddled with enormous debt.
