He Left Me to Freeze, So I Burned His World Down Chapter 08

“For Ava?” Claire stared at Graham, her eyes filled with contempt and pity. “If Nora hadn’t been so quick on her feet that day, the person lying paralyzed in a hospital bed right now would be Ava.”

Graham’s head snapped back as if he’d been struck.

“What did you say? Who’s paralyzed?”

“You’re still pretending?” Claire’s voice shook with disappointment. “You’re worse than an animal.”

She turned to leave, unwilling to say another word.

Graham grabbed her arm, his grip crushing.

“Make yourself clear. Who’s paralyzed?”

Piper’s face turned white as a sheet. She knew she had to stop Claire from talking.

“Graham, don’t listen to her. She’s just trying to cause trouble…”

Graham didn’t even look at her. His icy gaze remained locked on Claire. “Speak,” he commanded.

Claire could no longer hold back. Tears streamed from her red eyes as she screamed at him.

“Nora! She went back for the evidence against you, and in the chaos, she fell! Her spine is broken. She’s going to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair!”

Every word was a bullet.

“Your men locked them in. When they cried for help, your men locked the main doors from the outside. You cost her precious time.”

“If it hadn’t been for Nora, the one paralyzed today would be your wife, Ava.”

Graham froze.

The restaurant was so silent you could have heard a pin drop.

“That’s impossible.” His voice was dry and hoarse, completely changed. “My order was just… to lock her up. I never meant for anyone to get hurt.”

Claire shook off his hand, her expression cold.

“But your men did it. Your mistress planned it. Nora is lying in a hospital bed right now. That is the truth.”

With that, she turned and walked away.

Graham stood rigidly in place as the color drained from his face, leaving it ashen. Ice water dripped from his hair, mingling with a cold sweat.

Piper stood beside him, her hands and feet numb, a wave of panic rising in her chest.

She hadn’t expected Graham to find out so quickly, or like this.

The restaurant manager approached cautiously, but Graham silenced him with a single look.

After a long, terrible silence, Graham slowly turned to his assistant. His voice was low and terrifying.

“Find out.”
