After Rebirth, I Cleared My Name Through a Drunk Driving Incident Chapter 06

After the detectives left, a young female officer brought 

me water. Then she lowered her voice and said, “Claire, you should probably see this.” 

I frowned. “See what?” 

“You’ve blown up online.” 

She handed me her phone. The second I looked, my 

scalp went numb. 

Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. TikTok. Nextdoor. My 

name was everywhere. 

“Sister–in–law murdered by jealous wife.” 

“She deserves to die.” 

The story was spreading fast. And the one leading the 

whole thing was Mark. 

He’d posted a long Facebook statement with Jessica’s photo and a selfie of his own red, swollen eyes. Every word made him sound heartbroken. Every word made 

me sound evil. 

“I never thought the wife I slept beside every night could be this kind of person.” 

“She always treated my sister badly.” 

“Please help me get justice for Jessica.” 

Under that, he posted what he called evidence. 

Screenshots. Blurry surveillance stills. Neighbor 

statements. 

And the internet ate it up. 

My hands started shaking. The comments were vicious. 

“Disgusting. She should die.” 

“Lock her up forever.” 

“I feel so bad for the husband.” 

The insults hit like a flood. 

Mark. My husband. What part were you playing in this? 

In my last life, I died thinking he was another victim. Now I saw it clearly. Jessica died, and instead of looking for the real killer, he rushed online to destroy

If I hadn’t come back. If I hadn’t gotten arrested. If I 

hadn’t forced that alibi into place. 

What exactly would’ve saved me? 

Nothing. 

That cold realization shot through me so hard it hurt. 

I looked at the officer. “He accused me from the start?” 

She nodded. “The second they found the body.” 

“And the neighbor?” 

“He brought them in himself to give a statement.” 

“What reason did he give?” I asked. “Why would I kill 

Jessica?” 

The officer hesitated. Then she said, “He told people 

you were jealous because Jessica was younger and prettier. He said the two of you fought all the time. He also said Jessica once called him crying because you 

threatened her.” 

I just stared at her. 

Jealous? Threatened her? I’d never done any of that. 

Mark was building a story around me. A cruel wife. A 

bitter woman. A jealous sister–in–law everyone would 

be ready to hate. 

That was when I knew for sure. Mark was involved. 

Maybe he hadn’t done the actual killing. Maybe he had. 

But he was absolutely part of the setup. 

Harding found out about the online abuse fast. She 

walked in, saw the phone in my hand, and her face 

hardened. 

“That man’s not as simple as he looks,” she said. “His sister dies, and his first move is to throw his wife to the wolves. He already knows you were here last night, and he’s still pushing the lie. He’s not trying to avenge his sister. He’s trying to get you killed.” 

I looked straight at her. “You believe me?” 

She let out a cold breath. “I’ve been a cop fifteen years. 

I’ve seen real killers. You don’t look like one. I see rage. I see pain. I don’t see guilt. And if you were the one who did it, you’d be scrambling to save yourself, not sitting 

here in shock.” 

Then she left. 

Not long after that, HPD posted an official statement 

online. Short. Direct. Unmistakable. 

It said I was detained for DUI at 8:12 p.m. on March 19, 2026. It said the crime happened at 8:30. It said that during that time I was in police custody, on camera, on record, and witnessed by multiple officers. It said I did 

not have the opportunity to commit the murder. 

The second that statement went live, a lot of people shut up.
