The Belated Bride: Becoming My Own Muse Chapter 10

The Belated Bride: Becoming My Own Muse Chapter 10

I had to laugh at that.

“So that’s what you’re worried about?”

Christian stared at me.

“What’s your relationship with him?”

I looked up at him.

“Client and contractor.”

From the side, Grant added, “For now.”

Christian’s expression turned even darker.

I shot Grant a look.

His face was perfectly open, as if those two words had just slipped out by chance.

But I knew. He’d done it on purpose.

Christian knew it too.

He stepped forward, positioning himself physically between me and Grant.

“Claire, do you want a divorce because of him?”

I watched this sudden flare of possessiveness surge up in him, and all I felt was absurdity.

“Christian, when you handed my wedding dress to Bianca, did you stop and ask yourself if it was because of her?”

He was silent.

I said, “So don’t come asking me now.”

“You’ve lost that right.”

When Bianca came out after changing, she looked completely washed out, her eyes painfully red.

Tara walked out holding the dress and nodded at me.

“Claire, there are two crease marks on the skirt. One of the hidden clasps on the back has been cut off. Three beads on the bodice are missing.”

I took the dress, my fingers tracing over the damaged clasp.

Three months of labor.

Damaged by someone else’s careless hands, just because she wanted to look pretty for an hour.

Bianca whispered, “I’ll pay for the damages.”

I looked at her.

“Of course you will.”

She choked on whatever she was going to say next.

Grant left the lawyers to handle the aftermath on site.

I walked out, holding the dress.

Christian came after me.

“Claire.”

I didn’t stop.

He quickened his pace and blocked my path.

“Come home tonight. Let’s sit down and actually talk.”

I looked past him at Bianca.

She had followed him out, her fingers clutching the strap of her Hermès bag, her eyes fixed on Christian’s back.

I suddenly asked, “Christian, when you gave Bianca my dress, did it ever occur to you that it would hurt me?”

His brow moved slightly.

“I thought you wouldn’t care this much.”

“Why?”

“You’ve always been so rational.”
