Mom stood beside her, watching, her lips trembling.

She moved closer and seemed to want to touch Tessa’s hair.

But her hand stopped in midair and fell back to her side.

Because she didn’t know if she still had the right.

She was the one who had given this daughter away.

For more than a decade, she had never tried to see her, never held her.
