You Want Me Back? Sorry, Request Rejected Chapter 25

The chill in Elise’s eyes was like a blade, cutting through everyone present. She fixed her gaze on Helen and said, “Mom, I’ve always respected you as an elder, and this is my last time addressing you this way. If you really can’t stand me that much, then have your son hurry up and agree to a divorce.”

Helen was rattled by the look in her eyes. For a moment, she forgot how to speak. How had Elise turned into something this frightening in just a few days?

“Oh, right. Why don’t you ask your precious grandson and your precious son why his fever still hasn’t broken after so long?”

Elise stood in front of the group with her arms crossed, her delicate chin tilted up slightly. Even with a shocking red handprint across her face, there was nothing pitiful or yielding about her stance.

At her words, the looks on both Calvin’s and Rowan’s faces changed. Calvin’s gaze turned cold. “Watch what you say.”

He knew what had actually happened, but Rowan was the Fulton family’s future heir. This sort of thing was not something to be discussed in a setting like this.

Helen noticed him trying to cover things up, so she immediately switched tack and clutched at her chest. She wailed, “Calvin, look at the wonderful wife you married! Divorce her. You have to divorce her!”

Calvin’s face darkened as he supported Helen while she clutched at her heart in pain.

“Elise, do you have to make a scene like this?” He didn’t want this farce to go on, and his expression turned icy with displeasure. “Mom was wrong for hitting you, but she’s still your elder. Where’s all that respect you usually show her? Do you really have to be this petty and refuse to let it go?”

None of this surprised Elise. Every single time she clashed with Helen in the past, Calvin had always taken Helen’s side. Even when he witnessed Helen lay hands on her, he would first restrain Elise, then call it even on both sides.

Wait, no—he would force Elise to apologize to Helen first.

As Elise was thinking that, sure enough, the next thing Calvin said was, “Apologize to Mom, and we’ll put this matter to rest.”

She just stared at him quietly. She wondered how she could’ve been so blind for six whole years, bending over backward for a piece of trash like him.

He grew annoyed under her stare. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

She replied, “I’m trying to see if there’s something wrong with your brain.”

He fell silent.

Rowan and Regina were so frightened by the argument that they didn’t dare say a word the whole time. Now, Rowan tugged at the corner of Calvin’s shirt and whispered, “Daddy, let’s go home.”

“Yeah, Calvin,” Sabrina chimed in gently. “We’re on the tenth floor—it’s more of a private floor. Let’s head down and talk somewhere else.”

“Okay.” Calvin snapped back to his senses and glanced at the closed hospital room door.

Fulton Group had mainly developed its business in Ravenport before this. In Halston, its roots weren’t as deep as the old local conglomerates.

The Steele family, however, was different from the old-money, upper-crust clans. Their company had only moved back from overseas to Halston in recent decades, and in just ten short years, they’d risen to the very top. As flashy new money, they now held the number-one spot among Halston City’s four most prominent families.

With his return to Halston, Calvin’s plan to expand Fulton Group’s business included building a connection with the Steele family, but he hadn’t yet found the time to pay them a visit. One thing after another at home had distracted him from that.

He really did need to find a chance to sit down with Elise and talk things through. He needed to make her behave herself. If she would just go back to how she used to be, he didn’t think it was a big deal for him to make a few concessions.

“Let’s go,” he said.

Elise didn’t budge. It was as if she hadn’t heard him at all.

Everyone waited for her, and Helen soon grew impatient. “If she won’t leave, then just leave her be! She’ll get thrown out by those bodyguards sooner or later!”

Then, she pointed at the food container sitting on the bench. “We’re taking the soup.”

Elise, the tramp that she was, didn’t have much going for her, but she did have a real knack for cooking.

Calvin didn’t think there was anything wrong with that suggestion. Elise had made the soup just for Rowan, anyway. He was giving her a way to back down gracefully by taking the soup.

He stepped forward and reached out to pick up the container. Just as he was about to touch it, Elise slapped his hand away.

She pulled the food container into her arms protectively and glared at him coldly. Her voice was firm and unyielding as she said, “Don’t touch my things.”
