The Night Before I Became His Wife, the Night He Became a Father Chapter 04

Damian’s eyes were bloodshot, and the darkness in them was chilling.

“What did I warn you about?”

“Nina’s breathing problems flared up, and she ended up in the ER. How are you going to answer for that?”

How could that be?

I stared at him in confusion.

Damian suddenly roared in fury, “She saw your bullshit comment, thought you were going to cut her off, lost control, and almost jumped out of the car!”

He clamped his hand around my arm and dragged me out of the hotel.

“You’d better pray nothing happens to her, or I’ll make you pay.”

Damian was usually so calm, but on the drive over, he nearly slammed into the guardrail several times.

The motion made my vision go black in waves.

As soon as we reached the ER entrance, he shoved me brutally to the floor.

“As long as Nina is still in danger, you kneel here until you drop dead.”

Sharp pain shot through my knees.

For some reason, I began dry-heaving again.

Only after both of my legs had gone numb did a doctor finally come out with a grim expression.

The first thing he said was that Damian needed to prepare himself.

Damian’s eyes reddened, and even his fingertips were shaking.

After a long, heated argument, the doctor finally relented and said he could request special approval for an extremely expensive emergency injection. But the drug was still experimental, and there was not enough data on human reactions.

Since Nina was in critical condition, someone had to be willing to test it first.

“Her! Her blood type and physical condition are almost the same as Nina’s. She can do it!”

Damian hauled me up and shoved me in front of the doctor in a panic.

But the doctor took one look at me and said, “No. This woman is clearly in poor condition. Forcing the injection on her could put her life at risk.”

In the next second, Damian’s low, vicious growl sounded beside my ear.

“I only want Nina.”

“I don’t care about anything else.”

A loud ringing filled my ears, and I was so shocked that every sound seemed to vanish.

“Damian! Back in the ocean, she was the one who…”

But he seemed to have lost all reason.

He had someone bring over the syringe, and without even swabbing my skin, he drove it straight into my arm.

“Let go!”

I fought with the last bit of strength I had, and during the struggle, the needle snapped off in my flesh.

The moment I tried to run, my path was blocked completely.

An unnatural flush rose over his pale face.

His fingertip brushed gently across my lips. “Ivy, be good.”

Then he pinned me down and, ignoring the doctor’s attempts to stop him, ordered someone to replace the broken needle with a longer one.

The cold drug entered my body. My body temperature dropped fast, and my hands and feet began to go numb.

But between my legs, I vaguely felt something warm flowing out.

A woman screamed, “Oh God! She’s pregnant! That injection is absolutely contraindicated for pregnant women!”

“Get her into resuscitation now! No pulse!”

Amid the chaos, my eyelids grew unbearably heavy, and my hand instinctively moved toward my lower belly.

My mother had died on the operating table giving birth to me.

Because of my uselessness, my father lost his best chance at being saved.

And on the night before my wedding, I found out that my best friend and the man I loved most had been sleeping together behind my back for three whole years.

Hah.

What a failure my life had been.

As my final tear fell, my consciousness slipped away completely, and I finally closed my eyes in despair.

The syringe in Damian’s hand clattered to the floor.

When Damian saw blood slowly spreading beneath the woman, his entire body froze.

Almost at the same time, the ER doors slammed open from the inside.

Nina stumbled out in panic, her complexion rosy and healthy, without the slightest sign of illness.

She dropped to her knees and hugged me, sobbing loudly.

“Ivy, I’m sorry! I didn’t think he would drag you here, and I didn’t think he would force you to try the drug first.”

“I just wanted to pretend I was sick so I wouldn’t have to attend your wedding. I was afraid to face you. I…”

“What did you just say?”

Damian’s eyes went scarlet as he grabbed her by the collar and roared.

“Damian, let me explain. I…”

“Ivy!”

A furious shout thundered from the end of the hallway, cutting her off.

A tall figure rushed over and kicked Nina off me, sending her sprawling.

Damian tried to stop him, but the man’s fist slammed heavily into his eye socket, splitting flesh and drawing blood.

“Who did this to her?”

The man radiated murderous rage, like an avenging demon.

“I’ll make them pay in blood.”
