Kieran’s heart sank, but he took the file.

They showed Carla entering and leaving the central control room.

Kieran stared at the papers and let out a single, harsh laugh, devoid of any warmth.

So that day, Carla hadn’t gone to the restroom.

She had gone to the control room.

He slammed the file onto the desk, then swept everything on its surface to the floor with a roar of fury.

“Why?”

“Why did you lie to me?”

He snatched the file, stormed out of the house, and sped all the way to the hospital.

He ran ten red lights in a row.

By the time he burst into the ward, Carla was leaning against her pillows, eating fruit, without a trace of concern on her face.

When she saw him, she even smiled.

“Kieran, what are you doing here?”
