Life Reset Don’t Love Me With Your Betrayal, Don Chapter 01

At the funeral of the Walker Family Don, Boston’s local mafia boss, I spotted a woman with a mournful look on her face. She was the mistress my husband had kept for thirty whole years.

She laid a bouquet of white chrysanthemums before the gilded casket, yet she did not leave. Instead, she walked straight toward me.

“Hello, Olivia,” she greeted me. “I’m Sophia Bennett. I’ve been your husband’s mistress for years.”

I stared at her, a faint sense of familiarity tugging at me. But after thirty years of memories, I could not place her at all.

She tugged her lips upward, her gaze falling on Ethan’s portrait. Her eyes turned red.

“I know you don’t recognize me. For thirty years, he gave me everything—love, time, endless money.”

She paused and glanced my way, bitterness and resentment lacing her tone.

“But he strictly forbade me from ever showing up in front of you.”

My breath hitched.

“What are you trying to say?”

She let out a cold laugh.

“It means you two have been married for thirty years, and he’s been with me for every single one of those years.”

She turned and walked away, leaving me frozen on the spot, my limbs gone cold.

My eyes widened and I gasped for air. Thirty years of betrayal and lies crashed over me all at once. I collapsed onto Ethan’s tombstone.

When I opened my eyes again, I was transported back to the day I was supposed to marry Ethan Walker.

……

He was the heir to the Walker Family, Boston’s feared mafia clan. Every underground faction along the entire East Coast showed him deference.

Right now though, he knelt on one knee, his eyes holding only me.

“Olivia, will you spend the rest of your life with me?”

I stayed silent for a moment. I took the ring he offered, then tossed it straight into the sewer without a second thought.

The joyous wedding scene turned dead silent in an instant.

The Walker Family men, all dressed in black suits with red roses pinned to their chests, froze mid-applause.

Ethan lifted his head, pure shock written across his face.

“Olivia?”

He did not utter a single word of blame. He grabbed my hand right away, worry clouding his features.

“What’s wrong? Did I do something to upset you?”

I looked at him quietly. He looked exactly as he had in all my past memories.

He had acted this way for thirty years.

No one around us would ever claim Ethan Walker did not love me.

Everyone swore he loved me more than his own life.

Once, a car crash struck us. He had shielded me on instinct, breaking three of his own ribs without a single complaint.

Yet this man, who loved me so fiercely, had lied and betrayed me for three decades.

I closed my eyes, pushing down the suffocating emotions churning inside me. I pulled my hand free from his worried grip, my face blank.

“This relationship is over.”

His pupils shook violently, and his lips turned pale.

“What?”

He reached for me in a panic, his voice stammering, his eyes darting nervously.

“Is the big wedding making you uncomfortable? Am I pressuring you? I’ll fix everything. Just don’t be mad.”

I said nothing. His panic only grew worse.

Lila, my younger sister, hurried over after setting down her flower basket, completely confused.

“Hey, what’s going on? You two have been in love since high school. Why would you call this off all of a sudden?”

A sharp pain stabbed through my heart as I heard her words.

She was right. We had loved each other for so many years, but his deception had lasted even longer.

I took a deep breath. I ignored her question and turned to leave under the stunned stares of the crowd.

I had barely stepped foot inside the house when Ethan arrived, worn out from rushing over.

He wrapped his arms around me from behind, his voice trembling.

“Olivia, just tell me what I did wrong. I’ll change anything. Don’t leave me.”

I wriggled out of his embrace. Once warm and comforting, his hold now felt icy and hollow.

I turned to face him.

“Fine. Answer me this. Have you ever kept secrets from me?”

A flash of stiffness crossed his face. I had lived two lives with him, so I caught that split-second reaction easily.

“No,” he swore. “I’ve never lied to you, I promise.”

Watching him continue to lie, my heart sank further and further. I said nothing more and headed to my bedroom.

Late that night, a phone buzzed and woke Ethan up.

He called my name twice. Seeing I appeared to be fast asleep, he grabbed his car keys and headed out.

I opened my eyes in the darkness and slipped out to follow him.

I needed to know just how many secrets Ethan was hiding from me.

An hour later, his Maybach pulled up at a Walker Family safe house on Boston’s outskirts.

The place was one of the Walker Family’s safe houses. Ethan stepped out of the car with a dark expression and walked inside.

I put on a pair of headphones and opened the wiretapping app I had installed on his phone while he was bathing earlier. Shouting erupted through the speakers right away.

“Did I not tell you never to contact me first unless I reach out to you?”

Ethan’s voice was colder than I had ever heard it, carrying the ruthless authority of the family Don.

“This is my territory. I make the rules here.”

A shrill voice screamed in rage.

“Why not? I knew you were marrying her today! She’s your woman, but what about me?”

Ethan’s tone turned ice-cold.

“I love her. What are you even to me? Sophia, I’m warning you. Stay away from Olivia. Do you understand?”

After a moment, the woman let out a muffled whimper and agreed.

His tone softened slightly.

“Be good. I’ve gotten you a position in the project department at Walker Group. I can give you anything but marriage. If you want a child, that’s fine too. Just don’t cross my line.”

I leaned back against my car seat, my fingers tightening around my phone. Tears spilled down my cheeks nonstop, glistening on my ashen face.

The argument faded away, replaced by soft, intimate murmurs between the two.

My heart was utterly broken. Ethan, the man I loved, had betrayed me for thirty whole years.

I drew in a shaky breath and opened an email on my phone. It was an admission letter from a Boston university.

I had turned this opportunity down for him in my past life. This time around, he was no longer worth any of my sacrifices.
